There are all kinds of nutty people in the world, but these kinds of things are the wages of a conservative leadership and media that’s consistently tried to drum-up opposition to health care reform not by opposing things that are actually in the bill, but with demagogic opposition to completely fabricated provisions.

    Well, the comparison of someone who fabricated a pretext for war against a country that had done nothing to the US or ite interests, instituted a policy of torture and domestic surveillance, and generally arrogated a near-dictatorial level of power to himself has a lot more in common with the Big H than wanting to make health care available to everybody.

    In other words, the Bush to Hitler comparison makes sense; the Health Care to Nazi comparison doesn’t. Is that really so hard to undertsand?

    That’s a rather different basis for a comparison to nazis (although I would say ‘fascism’ is a better one) than, hum, health care pseudo-reform.

    It’s worth pointing out that this isn’t a bunch of lunatics who just showed up. A sitting member of Congress is leading and organizing this event.

    And that, uh, there are members of Congress and Congressional staffers whose family members actually died in the Holocaust. That pile of dead bodies could include their family members.

    Most of the people in this picture are on that socialistic medicine program called Medicare too! These people are just sooo angry and really effin insane. This is why Fox has to go under; they yell fire in a crowded theatre or Death Panel in a teabag.

    Just nuts! Currently, medical expenses are eating at least 9% of GDP all told and will go to 20% without government intervention. But wave the foam finger USA USA – We’re number 27!

    I really think that to be effective, our responses to this kind of thing have to be appropriately loud and harsh. Subtle irony and civil disagreement don;t get through to a lot of people. There needs to be a counterattack.

    There won’t be, though, because we liberals are civilized folk who are above that.

    1) Kafka’s got a point. We have heard about nothing but healthcare over the past year. But that is healthcare reform without the ..er..reform. Unless you call stealing $500 Billion out of Medicare “reform”.

    2) The healthcare debate seems mainly guided by the need to divert our attention from other matters:

    a) $24 Trillion financial bailout that has lifted Goldman Sachs’ share price from $52 a share to around $180 a share but which has left 17 million Americans unemployed and the perps are not only not in jail but are not even indicted.

    And what happened to that Financial regulation reform, by the way?

    b) Plus Obama and the Democrats have done NOTHING to fix the malign influence of Big Money and its right wing propaganda machine that is destroying this country. No campaign finance reform. No moves to restore the Fairness Doctrine or do ANYTHING to restore fair debate in this country. NO criticism whosoever of Fox News and of the Republicans as they lie to this country. Instead, a desire to collaborate with malign right wing agendas, rather than than challenge them.

    3) In short, we have the same government in this country that ran the Soviet Union into the ground. A small, deeply corrupt oligarchy that grabs all the wealth, which drives down living standards for the common citizens, and which allows the herd to vote for either of two choices for forms sake — with the votes being meaningless since both choices are always coopted into maintaining the status quo for the oligarchy.

    Some people read the word socialism and go to NAZI’s or Communism without knowing what they really were. The socialist party for example in NAZI was in actuality a Facist Government and England it is democratic. Obviously Communism as practiced by the Soviet Union was also Facist. In both cases they were Right Wing by definition of facism. Teabaggers are trying revisionist history as usual to make you think both regimes were headed by liberals. If they weren’t so serious it would be laughable.

    I was going to say, for decades the conservatives have been relying on disinformation and demagoguery to get their programs through, and it was sure to end upo this way.

    He has used drone attacks on enemies who use civilians as shields. This can be a warcrime, but it is not always a warcrime.

    This is false. He has continued rendition, not extraordinary rendition. Rendition is the capture and transfer of an individual to either our own or another country’s justice system. It has problems, such as accepting doubtful promises to refrain from torture from countries with poor human rights records, but it isn’t inherently a warcrime. Extraordinary rendition has been banned. That is a practice in which an individual is captured, and disappeared. They might be kept in a secret prison or delivered to a foreign government to be held secretly. If you want to call Bill Clinton a war criminal over this, you’d have better ground to stand on, but you have no case against Obama.

    Continued to claim state secrets. Continued signing statements. Supported the continuation of the Patriot Act.

    None of these are war crimes even in the most elaborate interpretations. The problem with state secrets and signing statements lies in how they are used, not in their existance. While I don’t like the patriot act, I don’t see how it is a war crime.

    Obama is no better than Bush.

    Just give up.

    While you are correct that the tea-baggers are engaging in revisionist history, you should be more careful with your specifics. Stalinist Russia was totalitarian, not fascist–i.e., it was a government in which the state had unlimited control over all aspects of life, but that government was, in Marxist terminology “the dictatorship of the proletariat.” The Nazi regime was both fascist and totalitarian, because it was an all-encompassing government consisting of an unholy alliance between right-wing ultra-nationalists and the corporate elites.

    There’s an argument to be made that the extreme ends of the political spectrum tend to converge methodologically, thus creating more of a ideological circle, rather than the more traditional continuum model, but it is incorrect to say that both Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany were “Right Wing.” To do so is to be just as guilty of revisionism as the tea-baggers.

    I remember when the media had vapors for a week after someone submitted a video comparing Bush to Hitler to a contest held by Move On. As soon as Move On became aware of this video, it was gone. They still took criticism from the members of the Democratic party. That’s as close as the Democratic Party got to comparing Bush to Hitler. There has been no renouncing of these Obama/Hitler comparisons by the Republican Party. It’s reprehensible, but what should anyone expect of today’s Republican Party?

    Please, someone help me here: the tea party republicans want fiscal responsibility, yet both of the last two Republicans (Reagan and Bush) doubled the deficit. Bush not only doubled the deficit but actually managed to spend the $900 billion (year 2010) dollar annual surplus left by the Clinton administration. So why do they think republicans are good for the economy? Over the course of 8 years Bush created just over 4 million new jobs, Clinton created over 25 million jobs in the same time frame. So why do the tea party republicans want a republican in office, is it to save this country from the last republicans mess?

    So let’s talk fiscal responsibility:

    The republicans want to continue spending $30-$40 billion a month on death and destruction in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and yet are unwilling to pay $10 billion a month here at home saving lives and building resources to make sure each and every American has affordable heal insurance. I just don’t get it.

    And let’s talk about freedom and terrorism:

    Why is it that when Osama Bin Laden invaded America because he perceived America to be a threat to the Islamic world, we called him a terrorist? But when America invaded Iraq because we perceived Iraq to be a threat to America we called ourselves liberators? This double standard is perpetrated by the belief we are a superior nation, and our freedoms are the only freedoms that matter in the world and that all people should live by our selfish standards. I think we fail to realize we are all children of the same creator.

    Esmasmacho it seems that you’re the one with the obvious IQ problem. If you could pause for one minute and see through your raging delusional nonsensical vitriol, no one is threatening to take your healthcare away – and if you believe that, you’re a gullible lemming. Also no one want to “FORCE US” to use their plan. Use that outstanding IQ of your and do some research, unless you enjoy embarrassing yourself this way. If you’re going to throw stones, at least do it armed with facts, not phony fux talking points. Talk about the issues, and if you are so damn incensed do something about it other than complain amongst yourselves! Call your congress people. Hell, call Bachmann’s office and rail at her. The Dems have to stop playing nice, even with their own party. Civility and Gentlemanly politics has gone the way of the broadcast news hour.     Nah — I call it stealing when you take $500 Billion out of workers Medicare accounts — instead of raising taxes on the Superich. But then if you did that, Obama might not get $700 Million in donations when he runs for reelection, hein?

    By definition, a Medicare which is $32 TRILLION in the hole HAS no savings. Reducing costs by $500 Billion –even if it’s possible without cutting actual benefits to seniors — merely means that the hole is slightly less deep –not that it is a well from which others can dip.

    Especially since Medicare’s situation is even worse. IT’s $3 Trillion in alleged “assets” are merely George W Bush’s IOUS that are worthless if we don’t cough up the taxes to redeem them.
    They represent the REAL money that Bush stole out of Medicare –with the help of Blue Dog Democrats — and gave to the Superrich in 2001.

    All of which makes me wonder if the REAL purpose of “healthcare reform” is to impose cuts in medical care that let Democrats slide out of past promises they made to the elderly.

    I just returned from the rally early and didn’t see this sign. A liberal on Twitter asked me about it.

    In a crowd of thousands (my estimate there were about 10,000 people there ), there are always fringe lunatics. Both the left and right have them.

    I am a staunch conservative opposed to this bill and find this sign completely out of line. However, this in no way represents even a fraction of the people there. The vast majority are normal, hard-working Americans who are pissed off at their government and President Obama.

    This sign in no way represents conservatives, Tea Party participants or the people attending the House Call rally.

    * I was born in one country, raised in another. My father was born in another country. I was not his only child. He fathered several children with numerous women.

    * I became very close to my mother, as my father showed no interest in me. My mother died at an early age from cancer.

    * Later in life, questions arose over my real name.

    * My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a legitimate, reliable birth certificate.

    * I grew up practicing one faith but converted to Christianity, as it was widely accepted in my country, but I practiced non-traditional beliefs & didn’t follow Christianity, except in the public eye under scrutiny.

    * That was before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new career.

    * I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.

    * I became active in local politics in my 30’s then with help behind the scenes, I literally burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office in my 40s. They said I had a golden tongue and could talk anyone into anything. That reinforced my conceit.

    * I had a virtually non-existent resume, little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker and citizens were drawn to me as though I were a magnet and they were small roofing tacks.

    * I drew incredibly large crowds during my public appearances. This bolstered my ego.

    * At first, my political campaign focused on my country’s foreign policy. I was very critical of my country in the last war and seized every opportunity to bash my country..

    * But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country’s economy. I pretended to have a really good plan on how we could do better and every poor person would be fed & housed for free.

    * I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess. It was the free market, banks & corporations. I decided to start making citizens hate them and if they were envious of others who did well, the plan was clinched tight.

    * I called mine “A People’s Campaign” and that sounded good to all people.

    * I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics & was able to gain widespread popular support.

    * I knew that, if I merely offered the people ‘hope’ , together we could change our country and the world.

    * So, I started to make my speeches sound like they were on behalf of the downtrodden, poor, ignorant to include “persecuted minorities” like the Jews. My true views were not widely known & I needed to keep them unknown, until after I became my nation’s leader.

    * I had to carefully guard reality, as anybody could have easily found out what I really believed, if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with.

    * I’m glad they didn’t. Then I became the most powerful man in the world. And the world learned the truth.

The medicare commission is required to assume that by law. Fairly small adjustments can change that $32 Trillion into a zero. Infinite amounts of time are like that. We can achieve those changes if we free MedPAC from congressional control.

    China, India Cancel Out Copenhagen
    Climate change: With less than two months to go before
    the big Copenhagen Conference on global warming,
    two major nations have said “no thanks’ to the nogrowth
    agenda. For that reason alone, so should we.
    Following a deal signed late Thursday between China and
    India, anything we might agree to do in Copenhagen is likely
    moot anyway. The two mega-nations – which together account
    for nearly a third of the world’s population – said they won’t
    go along with a new climate treaty being drafted in Copenhagen to
    replace the Kyoto protocol that expires in 2012.
    They’re basically saying no to anything that forces them to impose
    mandatory limits on their output of greenhouse gas emissions.
    Other developing nations, including Mexico, Brazil and South Africa,
    will reject any growth-killing proposals as well.
    Any possible “deal’: was already in trouble. Three weeks ago, the
    Group of 77 developing nations met in Thailand to discuss what
    they wanted to do about global warming. Their answer: nothing.
    William ‘Hawkins, writing in the American Thinker, quotes a
    piece in China’s Science Times journal that sums up how China -
    and other developing nations – feel:
    “Why do the developed countries put an arguable scientific problem
    on the international negotiations table?” the article’s author,
    Wang Jin, asks. “The real intention is not for the global temperature
    increase, but for the restriction of the economic development of the
    developing countries.” ,
    They see clearly what the rest of us seem to miss – that, for all its
    bad science, the Copenhagen Conference is about the world’s Lilliputians
    tying down its Gullivers, not about global warming at all.
    So, thanks to China and India, Copenhagen is dead – just as Kyoto
    was when it was signed in 1992, though no one knew it at the time.
    Without them, no global treaty on climate change will be workable.
    The two nations are not only the world’s most populous (with, together,
    more than 2 billion people), they are also the fastest-growingmajor
    countries. China is now the world’s NO.1 emitter of greenhouse
    gases, and India is catchingup fast.
    Even with their participation, Copenhagen should have been a
    non-starter for the U.s. Indeed, the main reason for the greenhouse
    gas deal, all but admitted to by its major participants, is to cripple
    the U.S. economy – the most successful economy in the world.
    True enough, as green critics keep saying, we produce nearly20%
    of the world’s C02 and other greenhouse gases with just 5% of the
    world’s population. But our GDP of roughly $14 trillion is nearly
    25% of the world’s total- in line with our gas output.
    We provide jobs and consumption not just for Americans, but for
    tens of millions of people overseas whose livelihoods depend on satisfying
    the massive American market.
    In case you’re still worried about warming, stop. Since 1998, the
    data show global temperatures have fallen. The Intergovernmental
    Panel on Climate Change says this can’t be happening. None of the
    !pcC’s models shows a possibility of rising C02 output and decliningtemperature.
    But even Paul Hudson, the pro-warming-theory BBC climate correspondent,
    recently had to admit: “For the last II years, we have
    not observed any increase in global temperatures. And our climate
    models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide,
    the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued
    to rise,”
    Yet, the !PCC estimates that “remediation” of the warming trend
    will cost about 1.7%of world GDP. In the U.S., that’s about $240 billion
    a year. For the entire world, it’s about $1 trillion a year- or $71
    trillion over the next 70 years or so.
    Proposals to slash C02 won’t work anyway. Department ofEnergy
    estimates indicate that 97% of all C02 emissions would continue
    even ifhumans didn’t exist.
    Even so, climatologist Chip Knappenberger estimates that laws
    like the recent Waxman-Markey bill would, if fully enacted, reduce
    future warming by just 0.2 degrees Celsius by 2100 – not enough
    even to measure accurately.
    Can the world really afford to give up $71 trillion in the coming decades
    to solve a phantom problem?
    Given the shoddiness of the science behind warming claims and
    the refusal of the biggest C02 emitters to play along with the climate
    change sham, it would be economically ruinous for the U.S. to
    do anything other than wish the rest of the world a nice day, and go
    about our business.

    I was at the event today. I purposely looked for objectionable signs, etc. I did not see this sign and saw no other signs that were objectionable. I looked as far as I could see ahead of me, behind me, to the left, and to the right. I looked on my way walking in and walking out. If this sign was even there, this picture was truly cherry picked for the purpose of painting all rally attendeders as disgusting freaks. Basically, the signs I saw all said essentially the same thing: “No Obamacare” and “Say no to socialism.” I saw a very well-behaved crowd while I was there (12-1pm). Also, for what it’s worth, I tried to do a semi-accurate estimate of the number of attendees. I stood near the back and counted as best I could to the front of the crowd (the hill slopes up to the Capitol). I counted 92.     I seem to remember a sign at one of the anit-war rallies: “We support our troops when they SHOOT their officers”. It made the rounds of rightwing blogs (even Sully got in on the action) and was held up as irrefutable proof that the anti-war people were really just anti-American scum.

    Obviously the great majority of the protesters were nothing of the sort, and the same is true here. This is just as much a genuine popular movement as the anti-war protests, and should be accorded the same level of respect. It won’t, because partisan cheer-leading is much more fun than rational thought, but it should.

Did these protesters ever stop to think of the hurt and they are inflicting on the families of Holocaust victims? I can guarantee you that no survivor would authorize or condone the use of this image to support the protesters’ cause.

    My grandfather NARROWLY escaped a similar death in Auschwitz. These images are my legacy, and I take personal offense at the way that they are lightly thrown about. A picture says a thousand words, and the way that these protesters use this picture says that they have no compassion, no empathy, and certainly no concern for the health and welfare of others.

It doesn’t say that those conditions actually hold right now. In fact, virtually all economic research indicates that the Bush tax cuts, for example, reduced government revenues.

    As far as this sign is concerned, yeah, it’s over the top. Its too much of a stretch to try figure out what it is implying, therefore…ineffective. But, another thing to consider is, that was the nicest and best produced sign there yesterday. So, I wonder was it really created by and carried by a legitimate “tea partier”. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was an attempt by an outsider to discredit the movement.
    Oh yeah…trying to place Hitler as a right winger really shows how you’ve been misled.

Is is society’s fault that you did not reach your goal, or your fault for not setting/reaching for it yourself? At some point you have to be accountable for your own actions or the lack thereof.     Spending another TRILLION dollars is not saving 104 billion dollars. I do not want us to pay for everyones healthcare – it is not a right! It is our right to have freedom of choice and we will lose freedom if they pass the current legistration, I pay for my own healthcare and would like to see it afordable but don’t think you and I should pay for each others. If the government paying for healthcare means that we will be paying for it, the government does not pay for anything. I guess in a way the government does pay, We are the government.
