Endgame

Make it electric:

— Giant piles of garbage are floating around in the oceans.

— Anti-tax movement ponders defeat in Washington and Maine.

— The future of real estate is in walkable urbanism.

— Stupak Amendment is potentially much more far-reaching than its proponents claim.

— Obama says that “instead of claiming God for our side, we remember Lincoln’s words, and always pray to be on the side of God.”

— Snoop Dogg supports entrepreneurship; I’ve got my mind on my money and money on my mind.

— Hezbollah foreign relations chief endorses Oprah.

Song of the day is Pretty Girls Make Graves “Something Bigger, Something Brighter” but I also endorse Amanda Blank’s “Something Bigger, Something Better.”

Shout out to walkable urbanism and Amanda Blank.

The interview with the Hamas and Hezbollah spokesmen is worth reading in full. Anyone still unconvinced by the increasingly modest, middle-of-the-road programs of these parties, is touchingly out of the loop at this point.

This quote is particularly salient: “I tell you this – America will not find anyone to assist it to come out of its Mideast crisis other than this bloc of nations that Hezbollah belongs to. If we count today the total US crises – in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, even Pakistan, what does the supposed Arab “moderate” bloc have and what does our group have in terms of cards to help the US. The strength is in the hands of our resistance bloc.”

Ammar Mousawi is all but coming out and making an appeal for the U.S. to ally with Hezbollah, rather than with it’s traditional client regimes. Meanwhile, his party is part of a new national unity government in Lebanon, along with the pro-Western Saad Hariri. So much for extremism, then.

TIME FOR SOUTH KOREA TO CUT A DEAL!

We see were the Gunboats from the navies of both [PDRK] The Peoples Democratic Republic of North Korea and the [ROK] Republic of South Korea had at each other. Well its time for the [ROK] to cut a deal with the [PDRK], this is not the [1950’s], and the war has been lost. The Empire can not and will not come to their aid. The [PDRC] Peoples Democratic Republic of China is the protector Sphere of Influence of the [PDRK], the Empire of the [21st] Century, with the ability to respond in kind to any attacks by the Empire.

The Empire will no longer exist within a maximum time frame of [1] One decade, [10] ten short years, with its troops in the graveyard of Empires, with no hope of victory. It is over and the citizens of the [ROK] should look to migrate to any other country but the Empire as it will be facing internal problems of its own.

The [ROK] should CUT A DEAL!

Regarding the trash in the Pacific, I am always surprised when people I thought were well-informed, and from whom I get a lot of my information, appear to have just learned something that I knew for a long time.

Is the Great Pacific Garbage Patch really that unknown among prominent progressive bloggers?

  5. Gavin Andresen Says:

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch isn’t a huge floating island of garbage. It’s a huge area of ocean with higher-than-average concentrations of mostly-microscopic plastic particles.

Details here. I disappointed that the New York Times didn’t give a clearer picture on exactly what it is.

I can’t tell you how relieved I am to hear that, Gavin. How much PVC/dioxin residue in your fish does it take to give you cancer, exactly?

Don’t be an ass. There is a huge difference between a pile of giant plastic particles and a pile of tiny ones. The former is more visually dramatic, but the second one is worse all around. When people visualize the toys and medical equipment and other generic crap, they don’t understand the magnitude of the problem.

I love that housing link. I hope that it doesn’t summon you know who, but even if it does it looks like a big I told ya so.

  9. hum Says:

Geez, Triathlon, did you get an attack of the runs while typing or something? You’re usually good for six or eight times that quantity of incoherent spew.

  10. jmo Says:

    hum,

There is a crazed looking guy always hunched over a laptop every day at my Starbucks. I always think to myself – I wonder if that’s Triathlon?

  11. Anthony Says:

Be careful, he might call you a “Democratic”! And defend secession through the novel use of brackets.

    Regarding comment 4 by JB

In the past week ,I’ve discovered exerpts of the British quiz show QI on youtube .And one of the questions asked by Stephen Frye was “where is the worlds largest rubbish dump “. Needless to say none of the panel chose the Pacific Ocean. For the record , i never would have guessed that either. For what it’s worth QI is a great show .Even if you can only watch small excerpts on Youtube.

Obama says that “instead of claiming God for our side, we remember Lincoln’s words, and always pray to be on the side of God.”

Which, of course, clearly demonstrates how far Lincoln stands opposite the modern GOP.

Not entirely microscopic, unfortunately (via EOTW)

I knew about it, but I hadn’t realized how big it was.
