Endgame

Stress surrounds in the muddy peaceful center of this town:

— I’m going to Denmark soon, going to try to avoid fathering any children.

— Chris Bowers regres his support for the 2005 effort to maintain the filibuster; I’m wrong about tons of stuff, but I definitely got this one right.

— Wages are not sticky if you work for the Miami Heat.

— I’m surprisingly influential.

— Excellent explanation of the affordability provisions in the Baucus bill.

With talk of a Pavement reunion louder than ever today, your song of the day is “Shady Lane”.

Pretty easy to avoid fathering children if no one will agree to have consensual sex with you.

    Kidding!

  2. OhMy Says:

Krugman, Matt, Glenn, Ezra, and Hertzberg in the top 50: good.

The rest of the list elicits, how shall I say, alarm.

  3. The Lorax Says:

    Yep, she looks Danish.

  4. Petey Says:

“Chris Bowers regres his support for the 2005 effort to maintain the filibuster; I’m wrong about tons of stuff, but I definitely got this one right.”

The thing that always gets me is how fucking easy a choice it was, and pretty much every single professional Democrats got it wrong.

  5. The Lorax Says:

    @2

    And Bill Moyers.

    That’s a terrifying list.

  6. soullite Says:

I don’t get the story that’s attached and it’s assertion that sex must have occured without a condom. Condoms are about the most unreliable form of BC there is. Actually pulling out reliably is more effective for the prevention pregnancy. Are there any actual fully grown adults (say, 30is at least) who would actually rely on that for birth control?

    On second thought…

  7. soullite Says:

Petey, a guy like you don’t get it? They didn’t want to get rid of the filibuster. The filibuster makes it easy for them to serve the corporate interests without having

You do have to realize how corrupt and dishonest the Democratic party is before you can steel yourself yo combat them. Those who look at politicians as allies better be young and naive. If not, they are outright stupid. To some extent, this extends to most of the interest groups involved as well. Too in love with their own power playing the game to ever make any kind of effective change.

  8. soullite Says:

Okay, Doesn’t. and “Without having people like us abandon them in disgust.” Been a long, long day.

  9. joe from Lowell Says:

I found the 2005 debate about the filibuster extremely frustrating, because judicial appointments are the most appropriate situation for requiring at least 60 votes.

A lifetime appointment, to a seat with not democratic oversight, or even a means of removing someone for poor performance, whose duties are meant to transcend partisan and political concerns, is the absolute last thing that should be done with 50 votes and the VP – and yet the Republicans were arguing that judicial filibusters were a uniquely inappropriate use of the filibuster.

  10. TRIATHLON Says:

    AMERICAN PUBLIC CUCKOLDED BY (AIPAC/AZC)

    (50 Cal. Desert Eagle)

Now, Reza Aslan, a young Jewish writer, (The Thinker Age), and a contributor to The Daily Beast, assistant professor of creative writing at the (UC) University of California, Riverside and senior fellow at the Orfalea Center on Global and International Studies at (UC) Santa Barbara, and the author of the bestseller No god but God and How to Win a Cosmic War, wrote an article for The Daily Beast (www.TheDailyBeast.com.) in defense of the Cuckolding of the American public by the (AIPAC/AZC) American Israel Public Affairs Committee/American Zionist Council, a (100K) One-hundred membership neo-conservative Jewish lobbyists group, connected to and in control of various caucus members of influential members of the American Empire’s pro-Israel lawmakers. It’s an argument on the idea of a husband having stood outside the door of his own bedroom listening at the door for the first round of his wife and her loving with moans of pleasure, and passionate words of love, and walking in with a (50 Cal.) Desert Eagle hand weapon, in the middle of the second round, having the lover, offer the argument that the husband wasn’t taking care of business, and the wife crying that she was being raped and just shot the lover/rapist.

    (OOOOHHHH!!! Pressure Groups)

Reza makes an impassioned argument that there is in fact no harm, no foul, after all every [Lobbyist] in (NYC) New York City, has been doing what (AIPAC/AZC), has been doing to the (544/DC), Degenerate Democratic and Republican Crooks all along. But, that argument falls flat as a pancake, do to the fact that everyone, and we mean everyone knows of the (SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP), even a guy deep in a cave somewhere along the rugged area between Pakistan and Afghanistan, in the middle of the (Af-Pak) Blood for Markets and Resources War being waged by the American Empire in that area. Reza writes, [In a new audiotape that surfaced on Monday, Osama bin Laden proves not just that he’s still alive—but that he’s paying attention, Reza Aslan on Osama’s surprisingly savvy take on DC’s “pressure groups.”], in other words the only ones not knowing about the [SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP] between (AIPAC/AZC) and the (544/DC) Degenerate Democratic and Republican Crooks, has been, and is the Cuckolded American Public.

    (Everyone’s Doing Them)

Now, Reza’s position is that the Cuckolded American Public should not pay any attention to some guy in a cave in the wild west of Afghanistan and Pakistan, that he should be ignored that what’s going on in the Cuckolded American Peoples House, and the [SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP] between (AIPAC/AZC) and the (544/DC), as they apply that special pressure where its desired, but rather ignore it. After all were all adults and (AIPAC/AZC) is willing to keep debating the issue of (American Empire-Israel SPECIAL RELATIONS), while they are still Cuckolding the American Public in their own house in their own bedroom. Reza writes, [But the core of bin Laden’s message is a warning to Americans to take note, not of an impending attack by some outside force, but of what bin Laden seems to suggest is a grave threat posed by an “enemy within”: the pro-Israel lobby in Washington.] Now, again a guy in a cave in the Wild West of (Af-Pak) is warning that the American Public is being Cuckolded by its own public servants and are in a [SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP] with a foreign [LOBBYIST] Group, as the spokes person for the group says pay no attention, that’s a good one! [BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG] Those Desert Eagles are loud.

IF you are below crazy aunt Peggy how influential can you actually be?

  12. Jim Says:

.— Chris Bowers regres his support for the 2005 effort to maintain the filibuster; I’m wrong about tons of stuff, but I definitely got this one right.

Wish I had a blog to prove I was proved fucking right, too. Also.

IF you are below crazy aunt Peggy how influential can you actually be?

Yeah, who is Peggy Nooners “influential” with? Chris Matthews, Thomas Kincaide and the guy who paints those big-eyed children? Who else?

  13. ferd Says:

Matt’s living large. Way to shine, dude.

  14. gordie Says:

Nothing like coffee and Danish in the morning.

And they love Nooners on Morning Joe, and the Reagan library.

  15. Colatina Says:

“Krugman, Matt, Glenn [Greenwald!!], Ezra, and Hertzberg in the top 50: good.”

MY is actually more influential than Klein or Hertzberg, (as well as some other people I don’t know anything) about. Interesting.

  16. cmholm Says:

Matt is listed below a number of well known liars… but is above Lou Dobbs. Sometimes, you win!

Regarding females in Denmark: Tour bus from Copenhagen to Elsinore, summer of ‘76. Sixteen years old. The route was almost all beachfront, and I’d been isolated in dar-al-islam for a year. I almost gave myself whiplash from the repeated double-takes.

  17. Dameligaen Says:

Danish women are way to tall and athletic for Yglesias.
It is a pulled groin just waiting to happen.
With that warning, I know a few current and former women ballers who might be willing to take him out in Copenhagen.

  18. nolaboyd Says:

Um, ballers could mean about five different things in this context.

  19. goddogo Says:

    Reza Aslan’s Jewish!

  20. Hector Says:

Re: Condoms are about the most unreliable form of BC there is. Actually pulling out reliably is more effective for the prevention pregnancy. Are there any actual fully grown adults (say, 30is at least) who would actually rely on that for birth control?

I feel I should point out that Natural Family Planning (especially the modern symptothermal methods that depend on temperature and concistency of v*ginal mucus) is more effective than condoms when practiced correctly. Indeed, it is the current most commonly practised method of birth control in Poland, which has a total fertility rate below replacement.

Anyone who subscribes to the cult of the condom has simply been drinking the Foucault Kool-Aid.

  21. The Lorax Says:

Indeed, it is the current most commonly practised method of birth control in Poland, which has a total fertility rate below replacement.

And the ball is on the tee…

  22. MosBen Says:

Yeah, it’s shocking how many nuts climbed their way up that list. And if we’re compiling a list of good people on the list, don’t forget Josh Marshall. And though I stopped frequenting Kos a long while ago, I’m surprised that he’s not on there at all.

  23. Mo Says:

Condoms are more reliable than both NFP and coitus interruptus. This is the case when comparing either perfect use or typical use. If you compare those methods’ perfect use to condoms’ typical use they’re more reliable. However, using the same logic, both methods would be more reliable than the pill. BTW, NFP is only marginally more effective than simply calendar method.

  24. goddogo Says:

Of course, the song of the day should logically have been something by Mary’s Danish. It’s even the kind of stuff Matt likes.

  25. James Gary Says:

Of course, the song of the day should logically have been something by Mary’s Danish. It’s even the kind of stuff Matt likes.

OT: I LOVED Mary’s Danish back in my late 80’s SoCal days. Nice to see them mentioned again (although to be honest, I bought a used CD of “Wondertruck” a year or two ago and it didn’t seem quite as awesome a record as it did in 1989.)

  26. Kropotkin Says:

    @2

    And Bill Moyers.

    That’s a terrifying list.

Lorax, i agree, half of that reads like a rogue’s gallery.

  27. calling all toasters Says:

Forget Denmark– go to Mexico with clippings showing you kick Lou Dobbs’s ass!

    …and congratulations.

  28. Anthony Says:

    Shut the fuck up, Hercule.

  29. right Says:

I’m not too sure you should be so excited about being seven spots below Jonah Goldberg of all people. I wouldn’t think he’s the 34th most influential person at National Review! Who actually buys his crap?

Douthat must be fuming somewhere, though.

  30. Adam Villani Says:

    Hector:
    v*ginal

Seriously, Hector, “vaginal” is a perfectly acceptable non-slang term.

  31. goddogo Says:

Maybe it’s like leaving out the vowel in “G-d,” an attempt to avoid blasphemy. What sect was Hector a member of again.

Incidentally, Reza Aslan isn’t actually Jewish. What a peculiar thing to suggest.

  32. beowulf Says:

Its not what you do, its what they can prove.

IF you do seduce a Danish maiden, just remember to tell her you’re the famous American journalist, Ezra Klein.

That will be one DNA test result that neither you nor the actual Ezra will have to worry about.

  33. handofate Says:

Congratulations, I’m a long time reader. Pleased to see you getting some of the recognition you deserve. Hope there’s more in the future, too. Does this create any pressure to do “something” to move up the list?

  34. The Lorax Says:

    @Adam 30

Indeed, it’s even the preferred nomenclature in this case.

  35. Beth in VA Says:

Of 50 influential bloggers, one was white.

  36. Beth in VA Says:

Oops. I mean Of 50 influential bloggers, one was white black.

  37. Just Dropping By Says:

Oops. I mean Of 50 influential bloggers, one was black.

Well, there’s also only one Hispanic, and that’s Matt! And at least 20 self-identify as Jewish (including Matt — the Benjamin Cardozo of bloggers). So, I don’t think their goal in compiling the list was to get an accurate demographic sample of the blogosphere.

  38. John Says:

What Joe from Lowell says on the filibuster – there was never a deal on the table to kill the filibuster. The Republicans were going to kill the filibuster on judicial appointments only, which, as Joe says, is the most appropriate use of the filibuster. Do we have any reason to think the Republicans would have supported a deal to kill the filibuster?

  39. linus Says:

“I’m going to Denmark soon, going to try to avoid fathering any children.”

But if you did they might look like this.

  40. OhMy Says:

Oh Beth, but the better news is that of the 40+ dunderheads and evil-minded gnomes, none were black.

  41. Hector Says:

    Adam Villani,

If you writ out words like ” l”, this blog will quickly become the target of spam. Plus, if anyone is reading this blog from work, it will get filtered out. Hence my use of the trm “v*ginal”.

  42. Andy Says:

Fellow Matador signee Solex has a badass cover of Shady Lane on her MySpace page (and she’s Dutch!). Funny thing is, I’d never heard the original. I was saving myself. It’s great too. Great song.

  43. cd Says:

I strongly recommend hitting Skt. Peder’s Bageri on Sankt Peders Stræde(close to the university) in Copenhagen. Go on Wednesday and get the onsdagssneglen. Booyah. Denmark is the shiz
