Marion Barry Arrested on Stalking Charges

Not sure how well known it is that the convicted criminal slash former mayor is still on the DC City Council, but now he’s gone and gotten himself arrested again “and charged with stalking a woman after the woman reported that Barry was ‘bothering her’ as the two traveled in separate vehicles in Anacostia Park, police said this morning.”

Re-electing Barry to City Council is one of the better arguments for denying DC statehood. Obviously the electorate is incompetent.

Not anymore than voting for Sarah Palin as vice president of the United States of America with a feeble old man as president renders those red states incompetent to vote.

That’s what the 4th of July is all about: celebrating taxation without representation.

Just when you thought Sanford and Palin had cornered the market on “Batsh-t Crazy Pol”, here comes the old master to show ‘em how it’s done.

Good Lord. This game of one-up-manship is gonna get out of control. It is gonna get out of control and we’ll be lucky to live through it. Anyone seen Blagojevich? He’s come out with something to top them all, I swear…

I’ve often wondered why the keep electing him. The most plausible explanation I’ve heard is this: “it drives Congress nuts.”

  7. linus Says:

The crack one was better. This one has nothing on Sarah “Sallie” Palin’s Free Form farewell soliloquy. My sources say she’s been in her room all weekend listening to “Meat is Murder”.

I feel you, but I lived in DC in the early 1990s, and let me tell you: Marion Barry was a MUCH better mayor that Sharon Pratt Kelly.

(What else do you know Linus?)

Apparently the Palin lady has also been gorging herself on cool ranch doritos and ice cream, and scribbling in her journal. You understand she was going to go shopping at the Nordstrom but couldn’t find the whig Todd had worn that time he was Strawberry Shortcake for Halloween.

This is off topic. But since many people here seem to be interested in urban planning and urban issues ,they also might want to look in todays Washington Post for articles on Fairfax County.

Apparently Fairfax County is talking about reclassifying themselves as a city.

With a population of roughly one million ,this would make Fairfax one of Americas largest cities.

It would also make it a larger city than Washington DC ,of which it is a suburb of.

I believe it has to do with wresting control of secondary roads from the state and giving it to Fairfax. It also seems to be about the increasing urbanisation of Fairfax County.

I apoligise for being off topic. But i thought that many people here would be interested in the articles.Especially since MR Yglesias did provide a link to the Washington Post.

Best regards to all of the commenters here

That must have been some musty, grave-stinking strawberry shortcake by the time the night ended.

  12. ET Says:

I sometimes think they keep re-electing him because of what he did in his first term as mayor with a healthy dose of second chancism. I live in DC and I don’t understand why his constituents in Ward 8 don’t get that he doesn’t care as much about them as he cares about being on the Council.
