Reliable sources tell me the Soto Show will get spicier as the week goes on:
— Serbian summer music festival hitting the big time.
— I thought Brüno was pretty funny, but for someone with something meaningful to say you’ll have to read Richard Kim.
— Jeff Rosenfeld’s 2003 senior thesis, ” Debates of Artistic Value in Rock Music: A Case Study of the Band Weezer, 1994-2001.”
— All about the TIME Act.
— Don’t think this Jannero Pargo signing is going to put Chicago over the top.
— Fiscal implications of DC Statehood.
Song of the day, Weezer’s “El Scorcho”.

- Lawsuit of the day: Del Taco v. Weezer.
- Good news for MattY & CAP: most of SS’s opponents are too pathetic to do this.
- Why is a Hawaii hospital (literally) covering up a letter BHO sent them?

Racist.

“El Scorcho” is a fake Spanish expression, yet the song lyrics refer to the aesthetic merits of half-Japanese girls. Discuss.

Really? So when they actually start asking her questions it gets spicier? Who would have known?

Grassley’s gonna pepper it up.

Shut the fuck up, LoneWacko.

jeeze, it’s the Guca Trumpet Festival in august that is THE festival in Serbia…it hit the big time years ago.

Really? El Scorcho?
That’s the greatest love song ever written™.
Women melt before me, in spite of my age and girth, when I let Wheezer do the talking.
Excellent choice. Be careful, you might have more company than you expected…

Good review in the NY Times Review of Books about the new book How The Beatles Ruined Rock and Roll.
Meantime, here’s the link to Gene Pitney’s “Town Without Pity”:

The Beatles didn’t ruin rock. Bob Dylan beat them to it by a couple of years. All that logorrhea.

Re: The Beatles didn’t ruin rock. Bob Dylan beat them to it by a couple of years. All that logorrhea.
Bob Dylan had the poetic and artistic gifts to not be bound by a single art form, whether it be rock or folk. People will still be singing “Love Minus Zero” decades from now, when most of the hip bands of today are utterly forgotten. Simply put he was, if not the William Blake of his time, then at least the Shelley.

You underestimate Jannero Pargo at your own peril.

“Sherman Oaks salon named Pink Cheeks that specializes in a beautifying treatment known as “anal bleaching.”"
Haven’t seen the movie yet, but that’s just classic. I haven’t been to Sherman Oaks in quite a long time. But back then, if you were looking for the cheesiest lounge singer ever, Sherman Oaks would be a good place to start. I can’t even remember why I even went there. But it’s surely not something I’d admit to if I could.

And damn you Hector! I keep agreeing with you these days. It’s driving me crazy. Dylan is awesome. “Idiot Wind” has to be the best song ever written. Either that, or “Positively Fourth Street.”

And for better or worse, when I lived in the Los Angeles metro area, I lived in Beverly Hills. Next to Kirk Douglas, and across the street from the Prince of Bahrain. And Don Adams was right down the street. Kirk was cool, I’d meet him in the service alley. He’d walk his dog there. If he walked it on the street, he’d be overwhelmed by the fans. Instead, he’d just face me when I’m taking out the trash. Don was kind of a dick. And the Prince of Bahrain was a world class asshole. I had a lot of run-ins with his security detail. I got used to having guns pointed at my head. And I learned not to walk on his side of the street. And when random idiots knocked on my door looking for Kirk Douglas, I sent them across the street. And they’d face two really big ass dudes in nice suits with even nicer Uzis pointing at their head. It was so fun to watch that. Oh, the good old days.

Since Day One was as spicey as oatmeal, I am sure that is correct. But unless they’ve got something I don’t know about, I suspect the basic dynamic is going to be Republican Senators miscontruing something to make it sound like a big deal, and then Sotomayor calmly explaining how the truth is rather more boring.

TIME act link is busted (it also goes to the Rosenfield thesis).

DC doesn’t need to be a state. It needs to be reattached to Maryland.
And by the way, DC only exists because of the role of instability and riots in London and their influence on Parliamentary policy during the English civil war. I think it is time we let go of that.

After watching Sessions and Sotomayor, I am going to give myself a gold star for my prediction above (not that it was a hard call).

The Pargo signing is clearly just meant as a stopgap for 2009, until 2010 when the Bulls are planning to get someone who WILL get them over the top.
Also, Pargo is eminently capable of turning late-game 12 point deficits into 2 point losses, which does a lot for your pythagorean.

Fact: El Scorcho is the best song ever released by Weezer.
