Marcy Wheeler Wins Hillman Award

In recent years, the Sidney Hillman Foundation has added a “blog” category to its journalism awards. Past winners include my colleagues at ThinkProgress and my former colleagues at Tapped. This year, they’ve given it to Marcy Wheeler of FireDogLake and it’s well-deserved.

  1. ferd Says:

Marcy is a brave, smart, hero.

  2. Poptarts Says:

I like how Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuval is one of the judges and the Nation won one of the categories….

Firedoglake is “meh.” Jane Mayer’s Dark Side was the book of the last few years.

  3. Curtis Says:

At first I thought this was an award for never using your closer before the ninth inning, but now I am showing myself to be a frustrated Royals fan.

  4. 24AheadDotCom Says:

Rosie O’Donnell? Al Sharpton? TOM ARNOLD????

Oh, wait, this is real, “liberal” life. Where ThinkProgress and now FDL and Nina Bernstein win awards.

  5. Adam Says:

Come on, 24Ahead, surely there are awards out there for people who hate Mexicans the most, right? If not, you’re sitting on a gold mine!

  6. pseudonymous in nc Says:

I was lucky enough to meet Marcy a couple of months ago. She’s great. And really, just working in the Izzy Stone tradition of gathering all the documents, putting them in a row, and working out what’s going on between them.

  7. 24AheadDotCom Says:

Adam: if you’re going to smear people, at least be man enough to indicate who you are; otherwise we might think you’re just a sockpuppet of the anti-Irish bigot who posted #6.

  8. Caroline Packard Says:

Compound adjectives in which the first word is an adverb, such as well deserved, don’t take a hyphen. You misuse hyphens a lot. It’s distracting, and it makes you look ignorant, which undermines your authority. Why do it?

  9. Adam Says:

24A: What? I’m a regular poster here under this name; I would think the name indicates quite clearly who I am. Also, I have no idea what’s anti-Irish about #6. That’s a particularly obscure claim. Though, I guess someone who dislikes other cultures as much as you do would be much more suited than I to point out the same.

  10. 24AheadDotCom Says:

Adam: take time out from hiding behind Jennifer Palmieri’s skirt to search this site for “bogtrotter”. And, stop smearing and man up.

Caroline Packard: everything MattY writes, hyphen or hyphen-free, “undermines his authority”.

  11. pseudonymous in nc Says:

Yet another ABJECT FAIL for everyone’s least-favorite blogwhoring nativist fuck, who still hasn’t considered just who might find it sad and pathetic for someone called “Kelly” (or “Buchanan” or “O’Reilly”) to spout warmed-over Know-Nothing dogshite.

The bigotry is all yours, AssForAHead. Stop smearing and man up.

  12. pseudonymous in nc Says:

But since AssHead The Birther is waving around his pencil dick, it’s time for him to man up and give a straight answer to this ToughQuestion:

“Do you believe that the Mexican government is plotting to take over the United States through immigration?”

Yes or no. No trying to dance around the question, which is your stock in trade. Answer in the comments box provided.

  13. El Cid Says:

I am really, really shocked and disappointed that there aren’t more awards for the sort of cutting-edge reporting and opinion to be found on 24InchesShortOfAYard’s website.

  14. jonnybutter Says:

emptywheel (as I initially learned to call her) deserves it all the way. She does great work (has done for years, even before Firedoglake) is very smart, and has a sense of humor. I hope this means more people who don’t read her will do.

  15. 24AheadDotCom Says:

Hilarious! “Adam” seems to have disappeared, yet other sockpuppets soldier on.

After searching this site for “bogtrotter”, bear in mind that the person using that pejorative for the Irish is apparently a legal immigrant from England.

  16. 24AheadDotCom Says:

I’m sorry, I was laughing so hard at the anti-Irish bigot’s comment I forgot to include a couple links. For the reader, I believe that any government will take anything we give them if we let our guard down. I have repeatedly stated that MX probably doesn’t have an explicit, detailed plan to take over parts of our territory. However, they do have a great deal of power inside the U.S. due to sympathizers, links to non-profits and politicians, and so on. As time goes on, that may end up giving them some form of joint control over part of our territory. Whether they have an explicit plan or that happens by accident doesn’t matter; it might happen given the current situation. In fact, I’ve stated things like that here many times, the latest being this.

Apparently anti-Irish bigotry affects reading ability too.

  17. pseudonymous in nc Says:

Hilarious! 24LoavesShortOfABreadBasket misses the mark yet again…

As time goes on, that may end up giving them some form of joint control over part of our territory.

…while showing that he is a paranoid delusionist as well as a ladder-pulling bigot.

Now go on your usual blogwhoring rounds, you fucking disgrace to your ancestors.
