Here’s the CIA General Counsel’s bio; sounds like he’s been in the thick of it for some time. Doesn’t look much like a friend of transparency seekers, alas.

I remember Fred Hochberg. He’s gay and was rumored to be Obama’s pick for Commerce Secretary, which would’ve made him the first homosexual appointed to a cabinet-level position. Then it went to Bill Richardson and Fred ended up with that token Import-Export crap cause the gay community was complaining about a lack of administration jobs (along with Hispanics, blacks and every other constituency).

Perhaps the difficulty in filling subcabinet appointments is that “subcabinet” is an off-putting term. It sounds a lot worse than the next level down, the Senior Executive Service.

Weber’s a sound nomination for the post. cf:

Dear God, I hope that middle initial on that Weber nomination is right, because if it’s not, I (a) have to find DC housing quickly, (b) have to study a lot of chem in a hurry since I got a B in it in college, and (c) will have to “finesse” my video rental history for any congressional hearings. (Yeah, that’s my real name, with a different initial. Hope our mail doesn’t get mixed up…)
