Character Reference

Michael Ledeen stands up for Marty Peretz.

  1. Douglas Feith Says:

Marty is one of the smartest people I know.

  2. El Cid Says:

Along with Norman Podhoretz and Bob Bartley, he is one of the three editors who gave me the chance to publish my work.

And how poorer off the world would have been without Michael Ledeen to kick around.

  3. 24AheadDotCom Says:

Does MattY mean this purely in just the juvenile ha-ha sense, or is he engaging in yet another LogicalFallacy? I think it’s the latter.

Perhaps MattY’ (aka “MattY prime”, the intellectually honest but non-existent counterpart to MattY) could ask the combined intellectual firepower of Journolist to go through each of Peretz’ points, telling us what’s wrong with each.

Me, I just went for the easy pickings, discussing how Matt Corley from Think Progress was wrong about this issue.

The reader might want to note that people like MattY, Corley, and other CAPheads are now helping make policy for the United States of America.

  4. Everyone Says:

    Shut the fuck up, Lonewacko.

  5. Senescent Says:

Eh, I’m too big a fan of Gabriele d’Annunzio – who he wrote a the best English-language biography of – to get too down on Ledeen. He does really have an impressive mastery historical fascism, but it’s kind of a specialist’s curse – he knows fascism so well, everything reminds him of it.

  6. Ed Smithe Says:

Along those lines…In a previous existence I discovered the best way in which to shut Ledeen up at a meeting was to mention the name of Italian facist Camillo Pellizi. Ledeen has some enormously creepy fascination with that man.

  7. Steve Sailer Says:

The point of having an invitation-only closed email list is to let people say and hear in private the insightful things that it would be bad for their careers to say and hear in public.

Yet, the liberal reporters and pundits on the JournoList closed email list apparently view their list as an opportunity to exchange with each other exactly the same ignorant eye-rolling, the same politically correct inanities that they spout in public, just with more bad language.

  8. El Cid Says:

The point of having an invitation-only closed email list is to let people say and hear in private the insightful things that it would be bad for their careers to say and hear in public.

Why would anyone assume such private nobility from journalists? That’s an odd assumption. I was surprised it was as issue related as it was, versus ‘OMG did you see the way X looked at Y when Y said Z? OMG!’

  9. Ted Says:

I was surprised that in the whole exchange there wasn’t one mention of “hypertimid incrementalist bullshit.”

  10. joe from Lowell Says:

    Dear Mr. Leeden,

When attempting to defend someone against a charge of racism, it’s best to avoid writing things like this:

I find it risible to suggest that he’s a racist. His remarks about Mexicans — overachievers here, underachievers at home — are part of a very old pattern, whereby immigrants rapidly “become Americans.”

Arguing that a statement about Mexicans being lazy can’t be racist because it’s true that Mexicans, left to their own devices and not “becoming American,” are lazy, is in fact a racist statement.

    Love,

    joe

  11. jonnybutter Says:

Funny that, so far, the people who are attempting to defend Marty against the charge of racism never mention the primary group of people he is consistently racist about: arabs. The incomparable Ledeen mentions Mexicans (and, like Joe above, I find Ledeen’s supposed rebuttal to be so stupid as to be savorable), and in the last thread about Marty, someone named Larry brought up a comment Marty made about Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.

    ARABS.

Also, the word ‘risable’ sure is being used a lot lately by pretentious neocons…

  12. A. Says:

“The point of having an invitation-only closed email list is to let people say and hear in private the insightful things that it would be bad for their careers to say and hear in public.”

Or, the only reason I can conceive of for starting an emailing list is to denounce blacks.

  13. JohnH Says:

Helpful that for Ledeen it all comes back to the Cold War. Today’s liberals are all commies and that’s that. Of course, this was a lie all along, and breathtaking, but it also helps explain the increasing irrelevance of the right among younger voters. We often think it’s just because the right lost the culture wars. But also, how are they supposed to relate to this idiocy?

  14. joe from Lowell Says:

Liberals are radicals are socialists are communists kinda sorta made sense.

Liberals are radicals are fundamentalist Muslims doesn’t really make any sense at all.

  15. Persia Says:

I was surprised it was as issue related as it was, versus ‘OMG did you see the way X looked at Y when Y said Z? OMG!’

    Me too.

  16. Ex Boyfriend Says:

If you want to hear a reader’s feedback :) , I rate this post for 4/5. Detailed info, but I just have to go to that damn yahoo to find the missed pieces. Thanks, anyway!

  17. Perri Says:

Sorry. Confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can have. It’s much sexier than any body part.
I am from Marshall and too poorly know English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: “Trying to find airline tickets? Aol travel is your one stop resource for flights airfare, and cheap airline tickets to meet all your travel needs.”

Thank you so much for your future answers 8-). Perri.
