Newt: Clap Louder

I think the conservative political establishment’s embrace of Twitter is going to lead to a lot of great blog fodder. For example, Newt Gingrich ten minutes ago:

Bobby jindal got a good national launch out of last night. His story is compelling.his values appeal to most americans

Wonder what a bad launch would have looked like.

Newt’s an idiot. Many thanks for continuing to point that out.

And BTW, for all of your “conservatives” that would like to see him run…I just thought that I’d remind you that he broke up with his cancer-ridden wife while she was receiving treatment for a younger woman.

Not the type of guy that I want in a position of trust anywhere.

  2. karl Says:

Gingrich didn’t capitalize “Americans” — why does he hate us?

  3. kid bitzer Says:

newt’s wife was receiving treatment for a younger woman?

right-wingers have been able to get away with lying for a long time. during 2004, we all watched kerry wipe the mat with bush during the debates, only to hear david brooks and the rest of the paid liars tell us that bush had won.

it’s the way they work. they aren’t going to give it up easily.

  4. Ed Smithe Says:

SORRY!…”while she was receiving treatment — for a younger woman.”

  5. swisshegemonist Says:

    His story is compelling.

Especially to those living in the “ring of fire” states (California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii) and the states contiguous to Yellowstone N.P. …

  6. Steve Sailer Says:

“Bobby jindal got a good national launch out of last night. His story is compelling.his values appeal to most americans”

I didn’t realize Gingrich was so influenced by Matt. Newt’s clearly adopted the style of this site of maximizing typographical errors.

  7. CJColucci Says:

Prediction: Jindal will keep getting boosted as a rising star of the GOP only as long as there is no actual voting going on. Then the primaries will come around. Then his star will fade.

  8. Luke Says:

Um, Americans LOVE Kenneth the Page. I, for one, am hankering for a lot more of Jindal.

Was there really any way that he was going to win the nomination in 2012? Besides, the GOP always goes with the runner-up from the previous primary, unless he chooses not to run. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE 1952.

So, it’ll be Romney. Republicans are the followers of authoritarians; they don’t have opinions of their own, so they follow the guy they’re told to follow.

  9. CParis Says:

It’s not even fun anymore. Watching the GOP bloviators spout complete nonsense that even my cat can see through is becoming painful. It’s like that TV show that started out sorta funny and quirky, but has been on 2 seasons too long, all the original cast left long ago, and the plots make All My Children seem logical.
    Calling Dr. Kevorkian!

  10. James Joyner Says:

Well, I guess several minutes of free air time on all the networks and being mentioned hundreds of times on the news as giving the Republican response is “good” from a publicity standpoint. Presumably, millions who had never heard of Jindal know who he is.

Whether that turns out good for Jindal …

  11. Rum raisin Says:

    That should read:
Bobby jindal got a good national laugh out of last night

  12. calling all toasters Says:

Wonder what a bad launch would have looked like.

To Gingrich? Obama convention speech, 2004.

  13. Bob Oso Says:

“Bobby jindal got a good national launch out of last night. His story is compelling.his values appeal to most americans”

Why is the word Americans not capitalized? I guess Newt hates America. BTW, did Jindal have a flag pin on?

  14. anonymiss Says:

Not wanting to burden our chilren with debt is an interesting pledge the week after passing $780 billion in unfunded spending

This is his entry right after the one Matt cited. I find it amazing that Republicans now claim a package that included a $288 billion tax cut–largest in history–is actually $780 billion in spending.

Just shows they are still not reality-based.

  15. joe from Lowell Says:

Newt knows all of that, DTM. He’s a smart man, playing dumb for political effect – because that’s what his party demands. Did I mention they’re doomed?

  16. NBarnes Says:

I’m not entirely convinced of Luke’s causation; it would have been really, really easy for McCain to piss away the 2008 nomination and break that streak. But I do agree that it’s going to be Romney in 2012.

  17. Bruce Webb Says:

The Republican embrace of Twitter just shows they don’t get it at all.

Peer to peer Twitter makes a certain amount of sense, that is if you are following ten people and ten people are following you then you are getting some intercommunication even if those ten people are not a closed group.

But it doesn’t scale. Paris Hilton or Rachel Maddow or Newt Gingrich are just not that much in to you, If they have 10,000 followers (or whatever Twitter calls it) the whole thing turns into a one way transmission.

That is Twitter is a perfect means of distributing talking points down to the masses but useless in getting messages up. For Republicans it is the equivalent of having a blast fax out but not needing an incoming line. But in the context of national politics doesn’t seem to be any kind of two way communication.

There should be more content on this

  19. Ex Back Says:

My friend on Orkut shared this link and I’m not dissapointed at all that I came to your blog.

  20. Vince Delmonte Says:

If you want to hear a reader’s feedback :) , I rate this article for four from five. Detailed info, but I just have to go to that damn google to find the missed parts. Thank you, anyway!

  21. Adolpho Says:

Give please. It is your work in life that is the ultimate seduction.
I am from Seychelles and now study English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: “Travel arena offering cheap airline tickets, discount hotel reservations, car.”

    With love :o , Adolpho.
