Bolton: Every Day is a Good Day to Start a War

boltonweb3.jpg

John Bolton urges Barack Obama to adopt a policy of regime change and unprovoked military attacks on Iran:

Iran and North Korea achieved their objectives through diplomacy. Mr. Bush failed to achieve his. How can Mr. Obama do better? For starters, he could increase the pressure on China, which has real leverage over North Korea, to press Kim Jong Il’s regime in ways that the six-party talks never approached. Options on Iran are more limited, but meaningful efforts at regime change and assisting Israel should it decide to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities would be good first steps.

That’s via my colleague Ben Armbruster who also observes that “Earlier this week famed war hawk John Bolton said that the recent crisis in Gaza presents the perfect opportunity for the U.S. and Israel to bomb Iran.”

That guy deserved everything Woody Woodpecker did to him.

  3. joe from Lowell Says:

Now if you’ll all excuse me, I’m down $145,000 to my bookie, so I’m off to “increase the pressure” on him.

  4. Jeremy Says:

Man, does this guy never stop? What does he think we are? Invincible?

  5. El Cid Says:

You know what would ramp up pressure on China? If we attacked China. I think a war with China would be really good for our national sense of discipline. I’d want to make sure that we didn’t attack all the areas where our companies are hiring the Chinese to produce our goods, but as long as we can have a nicely controlled direct war with China, man, the world would finally recognize what manly men we Americans are, and then we could all wear our Captain Kangaroo mustaches proudly.

  6. SPURIOUS Says:

Boy, that John Bolton is a firecracker. Maybe we should drop him on Iran’s reactors.

  7. calling all toasters Says:

If we invaded ourselves, it would increase the pressure on us to have a less aggressive foreign policy. Plus, it would allow us access to all that offshore oil. Kill, baby, kill.

  8. SPURIOUS Says:

We should help Israel with Iran right after they help us solve our illegal immigration problem with Mexico.

  9. spense Says:

“bomb Iran”. And then what? This is the Bush Doctrine in a nutshell: No achievable goal or political strategy needed. Just bomb countries you don’t like and see what happens.

  10. mark Says:

John Bolton: our National Crazy Uncle. Every day it seems weirder that we sent him to the UN. I mean, why not just send a rabid prairie dog?

  11. Tyro Says:

Iran and North Korea achieved their objectives through diplomacy.

Thus showing that people who focus on getting what they want through diplomacy have a better chance of succeeding with it than people who don’t.

All of the “we need to stop speaking with North Korea and Iran” talk always seems to loosely translate to, “The USA is too stupid to get what it wants, and our diplomats are going to be outwitted by the enemy, so we might as well just drop some bombs and get it over with.”

  12. skeptonomist Says:

Of course the Bush administration failed in its diplomatic efforts – it failed in everything. And Bolton, as UN ambassador, was a major part of this failure. The Bush-Bolton wars on Afghanistan and Iraq were colossal failures in their objectives, such as capturing Bin Laden and destroying al Qaeda – how could war could be a solution?

    Why? Munich, that’s why.

    Terrorist.

  14. CParis Says:

“Though Bolton supported the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard rather than fight in Vietnam. He wrote in his Yale 25th reunion book “I confess I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy. I considered the war in Vietnam already lost”.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_R._Bolton

Bolton is just like Bush, Cheney, Rove and the other chickenhawks who chose not to serve in the war of their generation and now want to play armchair generals.

  15. SteveIL Says:

It is amazing to see such a mischaracterization of what Bolton actually said. Typical leftist drivel.

By hiring better negotiators? If the guys you’re negotiating with achieve all their goals and you come up empty, that’s pretty much due to either a weak barganing position or you just sucking.

  19. Richard Steven Hack Says:

Or both – which applies to Bush and Bolton.

  20. Shiva Says:

Bolton is a few cans short of a six-pack, but he illustrates why groups like Hamas should not be encouraged. Someday, someone may actually attack Israel successfully; it may be only a matter of time, and then Israel will respond, and then things may continue to escalate, and really get out of control, and some high level of damage may be the result (e.g. a war with Iran). Therefore, the entire global economy can be devastated if anti-Israel hostility goes on much longer. For this reason, the US may have a real self-interest in helping to reduce the hostilities in the Middle East.

  21. Farid Says:

I favor gassing John Bolton. It’d set a good example.

  22. Farid Says:

Oh let me rephrase … I’d like to see John Bolton gassed and turn into a pile of ash in front of his loved ones.
