A Look Back

Dianne Feinstein doesn’t oppose all initiatives coming from newly elected presidents. Here, for example, is her statement in praise of George W. Bush’s 2001 tax cuts.

Yes. As is being discussed all over the blogosphere this morning, she’s pretty loathsome. Some other commenter on some other blog I browsed in the last hour (I forget where) described her as “more or less a dedicated Republican,” which sounds about right to me.

can Californians stop electing this horrible human being?

Hey Matt, you might want to ban this makkale fellow.
He seems to just copy other peoples’ comments and affix links to obscure websites to them.
    Seems like a spam bot.

  5. JimboSlice Says:

Of course she approved of those tax cuts … shes rich bitch!

  6. Th Says:

One aspect of Obama’s election that has been encouraging has been the appointment of long-serving congress critters to administration posts making room for new blood in the party. As much as I support people like Dodd, Durbin, Kerry, etc. isn’t it time for someone younger to have their seat? The best people will not want to go into politics if there is no path upwards. Appoint Feinstein to something and get her out of the Senate so Californians can elect someone new. Ambassador to Indonesia sounds good.

  7. Don Williams Says:

    Sigh.

Well, if you’re really determined to dig up the dirt on Feinstein, Matthew, then how about this?

From a November 3 , 2003 conference on IRaq Intel at the COuncil on Foreign Relations — DF = Senator Dianne Feinstein
    ——-
“DF]: Let me tell you exactly how I feel. I was one of the 77 members of the Senate that voted to authorize use of force.

    [KA]: Right.

[DF]: It was my first vote in what was effectively a declaration of war, and I took it very seriously. And I went back, and I read both the classified and unclassified version of the National Intelligence Estimate and tried to reread some of the intelligence. And I drew from that that there was an imminent threat.

    [KA]: Right.

[DF]: And it was really on that basis that I can truthfully say that’s why I voted. I did not vote for regime change. I voted because I sincerely believed that this man, with his background, with his use of poisonous materials on his own people, with his feudal needs, was a threat, certainly in the Middle East and even quite possibly to us, in terms of being able to smuggle things into this country. ”

Republicans used the above to argue that if Dianne Feinstein could make this mistake, then why not George W Bush?

    How about NATO?

I also hear that Commerce has a slot available.

    I like this idea.

I see Jane Hamsher has a post laying out my thoughts much better than me and with links.

  10. McKingford Says:

The primary reason that the documentary The Times of Harvey Milk is better than the film Milk is that the documentary gives a pretty thorough picture of just how loathsome and counter-progressive Dianne Feinstein is.

  11. Craig Says:

Wow. I didn’t realize how pathetic she was. She is from California she could be much more progressive. Voting for Bush’s tax cuts was a good plan for senators from Georgia or Louisiana, but what the hell was Dianne Feinstein doing voting for that?

    Re Dianne Feinstein

Actually, I hear rumors that Senator Feinstein is planning to run for Governor of California in 2010.

    Re Don Williams

Gee, Mr. Williams doesn’t like Dianne Feinstein. What a surprise, given her ethnic background.

Actually, I defended Senator Feinstein in an earlier thread –pointing out that she tried to do the right thing in Sept 2002 and that she was far less of a craven sell-out to the Israel Lobby than a lot of Gentiles in the Democratic Caucus.

She joined Bob Graham in pushing the Bush Administration to have the Intel Community draw up a NIE on the Iraq threat, for example.

I keep seeing it bandied about on Swing State Project that she’d be a shoo-in if she ran, but I’m not buying it. First of all, she’ll be 77 years old in 2010. You can be 100 years old casting votes on the Senate floor, but running a state of 38 million people is another question. Second of all, the bench in California has gotten pretty big. We’ve got a whole slew of Congressmen or -women, state legislators, big-city mayors, Jerry Brown, etc. It’s not like she’s the only chance the Democrats have.

She may be a U.S. Senator, but if it’s one of her vs. a whole bunch of moderate-to-liberal Democrats, no way they’re all going to bow down to her in the primary.

  16. SLC Says:

    Re Don Williams

    Maybe that’s because she’s only 1/2 Jewish.

  17. bobbo Says:

I was all excited in 92 when California elected two women Senators. Over time however I have come to hate Dianne Feinstein with the heat of a thousand white hot suns. She is loathsome.

  18. SLC Says:

    Re bobbo

What else does Mr. bobbo expect from a former mayor of San Francisco?

  19. Richard Steven Hack Says:

Anybody who knew Feinstein when she was mayor of San Francisco would have known she’d make a lousy Senator.

She’s the most corrupt politician since Hermann Goering.

And SLC, that’s not because she was from San Francisco, it’s because she is owned and operated by PG&E.

Anybody who thinks that she is “progressive” just because she is from this state and city simply is clueless.

  20. Dilan Esper Says:

    SLC:

You may very well be right about Mr. Williams’ motivations, but I should note that DiFi gives non-anti-Semites plenty of reasons to not like her.
