Toyota Down

Looks like the dastardly United Auto Workers has somehow conspired to cause Toyota to post its first loss in seventy years.

Wait ! Which blogger wrote this?

  2. skiddie Says:

Who posted this? And does it represent the views of CAP? How do UAW and Toyota feel about this post?

What does Jennifer have to say?

  3. Buckeye Hamburger Says:

Matt, I take it you have a great deal of respect for Toyota’s critical thinking, and for their excellent work product.

  4. JIm Says:

Losses are the Third Way after gains and equilibrium. Third Ways blow. Agree/Disagree?

  5. gregor Says:

Is Toyota a client for Podesta Asscociates?

Is Jenniffer Palmieri happy with this post?

  6. Ed Marshall Says:

He’s got to have this thing running on a timer…

  7. SPURIOUS Says:

This makes sense. After all, if UAW members are being laid off, they won’t go spending their paychecks on nice, reliable Toyotas, will they?

  8. hadit Says:

OK, it’s official. Matt isn’t writing this crap. It’s all Jennifer, now.

  9. Elephant in Living Room Says:

Nothing to see here; move along.

  10. Tom Says:

Lame, Matt. Strawmen are not what you build solid arguments on. Toyota had it’s first operating loss in 71 years because of the incredibly bad market for automobiles. Unlike the D3, they have good relations with thier workers which allow them the flexibility to survive.

Actually, the existance of the UAW may have been a competitive advantage for Toyota.

  11. bperk Says:

    It’s snark, Tom.

  12. Luke Says:

Hmm. The lack of typos suggests that it’s not Matt.

    STRAWMAN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??

Your fucking strawman just tried to destroy American manufacturing!

Seriously, go to hell. You can’t wreck America and then call criticism of your ideology a strawman argument. “Nobody really wanted to disarm Saddam, anyhow…”

  13. Freddie Says:

Getting back to the content, Matt is right to parody the absurd scapegoating of the UAW.

  14. Thomas Allen Says:

At least the UAW does not take part in Hyper-Timid Incrementalist Bullshit

  15. Thomas Says:

A loss? Geez, I thought you were going to say that they need a government bailout just to survive til the end of the week.

But those’re pretty much the same thing to someone like Matt.

  16. The Management Says:

We here at Think Progress appreciate the blogging that Matt does. We also have a very good relationship with lazy union bosses at the UAW and have partnered with them on many occasions. We wish to make it clear that comments made by Matt do not reflect the opinion of the Think Progress management, or that of our affiliate partners.

    Thank You

  17. courage Says:

It took a great deal of courage for Matt to not address the obvious lingering questions regarding his editorial independence.

    How’s that for snark?

  18. Libertarian Girl Says:

Key here is first loss, and they’ll still make a profit due to dividend income. Not quite GM or Chrysler territory.
