Intriguing evidence that they are from Stan Collender.
Relatedly, I was talking with colleagues this morning about Sarah Palin’s scheduled rollout of a health care plan and the difficulties of scheduling an event in Alaska that can be well-timed to get news coverage on the east coast. It was a reminder that a governor of Alaska will face some logistical hurdles in trying to remain in the national eye. I also suspect that needing to talk about how falling oil prices are causing economic harship will remind people that experience as the chief executive of an underpopulated petro-state has relatively little to do with big national issues.

Leave Palin alone.
If oil doesn’t come back very soon then her popularity in Alaska will disappear and we will never hear from her again.
The main reason she was popular was because she had all the oil money. I bet the leaders of Saudi Arabia also were far more popular 9 months ago than they are right now.

My guess is that she may be able to take advantage of Alaska’s long summer days to be able to do media stuff, but when its dark during the winter . . . who knows?

Same with Russia and Iran, which is good news for Obama.

Re Matthew’s comment “will remind people that experience as the chief executive of an underpopulated petro-state has relatively little to do with big national issues.”
———-
Oh, come on. The past Presidential Campaign cost over $1 Billion — the only people who count are the ones who write the big checks. And SOME of those people like a Governor who’s supportive of Big Oil.
It’s kinda hilarious that bloggers like Matthew make fun of Sarah’s ignorance and questionable intelligence. For all her faults, At least Sarah knows how the world works. Harvard Matt quite clearly does not.
If Matthew thinks a Philosopher King has a chance in hell of EVER becoming even a serious candidate for President, he’s pursuing a mirage.
Our Overlords like ignorant , incompetent, insecure dumbshits — because such do what they’re told. How do you think George W Bush got elected?

IF you were a Republican operative looking for a sugar daddy, who’s a better prospect? Wealthy Mitt Romney — or Sarah Palin?
What political operative wants to consign himself to the frozen wilderness of Alaska? In ancient Rome, advisors cut their veins when faced with such exile.

You could try telecommuting from Hawaii, they’re only an hour off.

I have nothing to say about Sarah Palin except that I wish her the greatest possible success in the next three and a half years or so. In the words of Napoleon Bonaparte, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”
December 4th, 2008 at 11:53 am
It’s hard to realize nowadays, but not every Republican is some frenzied devotee of Pat Roberts and James Dobson or some neocon wannabe Machiavelli who looks at the Dobsonites as useful idiots. I would bet that a lot of the folks at the RNC are just plain old GOP partisans, and right now they feel like Mickey Mouse in Fantasia and they see Palin as an army of walking broomsticks.

It was a reminder that a governor of Alaska will face some logistical hurdles in trying to remain in the national eye.
which obviously explains whey she has spent less time in Alaska post-election and more time in say Georgia, keeping her name and face exposed for the population in the lower 48 (which is not impressing some Alaskans).

“the difficulties of scheduling an event in Alaska that can be well-timed to get news coverage on the east coast.”
Alaska is 5 hours away, not 12. Have your event at 11 am local, and CNN can carry it live at 4 pm EST and then get nightly news coverage. How is this an issue?
December 4th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
Alaska is 5 hours away, not 12.
Actually it’s 4 hours. The Pacific Time Zone (California) is 3 hours behind the Eastern Time Zone, and the majority of Alaska is one hour behind that. The only part of Alaska that five hours behind the East Coast are the western Aleutian islands.
Alaska, like most of the rest of the country, uses daylight saving time. Hawaii does not, so Hawaii alternates between being 5 hours behind the East Coast (during the winter) and 6 hours behind (during summer).
