Republican Governance

House GOP getting serious about dealing with national problems in a time of crisis:

The House Republican caucus has so far balked at a chance to meet with Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, the former House Democratic strategist who has been named the new White House chief of staff. Mr. Emanuel, who has been reaching out to Congressional Republicans since his selection as chief of staff, is set to meet Thursday with some Senate Republican leaders and individually with some House Republicans.

Maybe if they close their eyes and wish really hard, Andy Card will reappear as Chief of Staff.

Let’s be fair. It’s possible that House Republicans recognize their complete irrelevance, and don’t want Emanuel to waste any of his valuable time meeting with them. It’s the responsible thing to do.

  2. David Morton Says:

Gabriel is right on. With the House GOP’s recommitted devotion to fiscal discipline comes a newfound respect for time management.

I’m trying to think of what House Republicans might do. What legislation is there that will be passed by the Senate, signed by the President, and yet have so much opposition among House Democrats that House Republicans will be necessary. Is there any legislation like that which they would be willing to pass?

Cooperation by Senate Republicans will be necessary. House Republicans can stay home for two years, whipping themselves in to a frothy conservative lather.

  4. edsbowlingshoe Says:

Given the overwhelmingly powerful position of the House Republicans, why would they meet with Emanuel?

They’ll meet with him when he’s shoving policies down their throats in a few months anyway….heck – any Republican still left in office after 8 years of blind incompetence probably figures that a couple more months of willfull ignorance isn’t going to hurt….
