The first paragraph of the article just adds to the awesomeness. If you have to keep it on the DL in San Francisco, man, you are really, really Republican.
&c. is perfectly fine, “et” means “and.” So et cetera = and cetera = & cetera = &c..
Not only does “et” mean “and” which is symbolized by “&”,
but the “&” character originated as a compact script for “et”. So “&” = “et”, no need to cite “and” as a middleman.
He’s using the term right, and the sexual double entendre (which is a pretty selective usage) is arguably deliberate. You and Ackerman are the ones who look square and clueless here. But, by all means, don’t listen to me and everyone else whose pointed it out here if it means that much to you to laugh at the twerps at National Review. They should be laughed at for the ridiculous “persecuted” slant of the piece if for nothing else. (But you do have to admit that Nordlinger’s right about that girl who should dump her boyfriend.)
Good call Steve Canadian. There is clearly a parallel here between San Fran Republicans and closeted/on the DL gays. It actually makes the article semi-clever if you accept that Nordlinger is aware of the connotation.

Meh. His usage fits the non-sexual slang for it.

I’m more shocked about the use of “&c” for “etc.”

I can picture the response:
“I did not know that.”

But yeah, good burn on Derbyshire for being gay.

Interesting point, whick. I’m still chuckling at the idea that Derbyshire is gay, though. How shameful for him! How funny for us.
November 25th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
I thought Derbyshire liked underaged girls?

who the fuck is derbyshire and why should I know of him?
I suspect that whosoever he is, he must be down-low with jonah lucianne.

Derbyshire is the kind of guy who’d make a pass at Mario Lopez and when rejected turn Tancredo.

Straight British men often seem to Americans to be gay. Just sayin’.

More evidence for Matt’s interpretation:
“It’s just that no one had ever opened his mouth.” [Referring to the two sets of parents.]
All the parents are male? No wonder they didn’t want to admit they were Republicans. They would have been run out of the party.
