I Am Incredibly Powerful

As you may have heard, anyone who works for the Center for American Progress is now an incredibly influential person in American politics. That means me! If you’re not convinced yet, read this (”Podesta nonprofit to take center stage”) from Politico and this (”Soros-Funded Democratic Idea Factory Becomes Obama Policy Font”) from Bloomberg. Folks looking to curry favor with the incoming administration are encouraged to get in touch and offer me junkets and/or free meals here in DC.

You’re “Happy Meal” is in the mail.

  2. Ho Lieberwurst Says:

Too bad you couldn’t convince the Democrats who, with Obama’s blessing let’s not forget, are keeping a traitor and neoconservative in their caucus.

  3. Jason Says:

All I want is a job on the Hill. If you can help me out, free meal in it for you.

  4. Grand Moff Texan Says:

May I just take a moment to say “fuck” and thereby scotch the whole thing?

    Ah-thank ‘kew.
    .

  5. 24AheadDotCom Says:

The fact that CAP is the “think tank that can’t think straight” – and the fact that they’d get power if BHO won – was why I put them at #16 on my Oct. 29 list of reasons to oppose BHO. They also make an appearance in #14.

Expect MattY to start promoting “localism” any day now.

  6. skeptic Says:

This would be a lot funnier if I were 100% certain that Matt is joking. But don’t tell me that he doesn’t get a small tingling in his loins when he considers his good fortune (or opportunism) in jumping to CAP right when it was poised on the brink of being Obama’s DLC.

  7. NattyB Says:

    Fuck Joe Lieberman

  8. joejoejoe Says:

You are powerful! I was walking back from the grocery store today and thought to myself and began to contemplate the zoning of my neighborhood. I wouldn’t have done that without you. Also, you’ve renewed my irrational hatred of Switzerland. A bunch of neutral wankers I say.

  9. cmholm Says:

If Franken wins the recount, can you engineer Lieberman’s exit from the caucus? An iPod in it for you.

On the other hand, having a (real) Socialist and a DINO to bookend the Senate Democrats is just too pretty a picture to break up. It’d be like promoting Major Major Major Major to Colonel.

  10. cmholm Says:

Did I say iPod? I meant iPod Speakers.

  11. edsbowlingshoe Says:

I have 2 dry white chickens and some dry white toast with your name on it. Now, shell out some wisdom in trade, if you will.

  12. SamChevre Says:

I’m a really good cook, and have a spare bedroom. If you call coming to visit weirdoville VA a junket, you’re welcome to come.

(It’s a serious offer–respond here and I’ll email you with actual contact info.)

  13. joejoejoe Says:

It’s four whole fried chickens, not 2 dry white chickens. And a coke. You are confusing your Jake and Elwood canon.

  14. Bilby Says:

“We have been oriented as opposition,” says Faiz Shakir, CAP’s research director and the editor-in-chief of its popular blog, Think Progress. “We are pretty good at that; we know how to deconstruct Republican ideas.” (emphasis mine)

Translation: They’re lying hacks. I don’t see why that has to change now.

  15. MosBen Says:

I don’t mean this as a negative, but I always assumed that the move from The Atlantic to CAP was an attempt on MattY’s part to get closer to a potential Obama administration. Again, I think it was a great and smart move for someone looking to get involved in government or at least to have access to it or even perhaps have some influence over it.

  16. Peter K. Says:

I bet the Swiss think they’re connected now.

I don’t mean this as a negative, but I always assumed that the move from The Atlantic to CAP was an attempt on MattY’s part to get closer to a potential Obama administration.

I assumed Podesta liked to read Matt’s blog so he hired him, and Obama liked to read Matt’s blog so he hired Podesta to lead his transition team b/c he liked how Podesta hired. At least that’s what I would tell people.

  17. joe from Lowell Says:

None of you CAPers have released your REAL birth certificates.

    None of you!

    Right, LoneWacko, aka, “24 ahead?”

What’s that, the price of your sisters in pesos?

That’s certainly what I was telling the Swiss.

  19. 24AheadDotCom Says:

A few years ago, TP used to have the occasional smart commenter. Then, there was a purge (I believe done by Judd Legum or at least during his term) and it devolved into a very low-wattage snarkfest, where all the comments were the same stale old jokes. And, the posts were always incredibly bad and – just like MattY’s posts – constantly featured LogicalFallacies and worse. About the only difference is that they’ve reluctantly posted a few tacked-on corrections, something that MattY has rarely done.

I mean, seriously: does anyone confuse TP with, say, volokh.com?

Now, those same very low-wattage people have a major voice.

  20. edsbowlingshoe Says:

As an occasional Yglesias poster, I’d just like to point out the obvious here: 24AheadDotCom’s website is totally bonkers and a perfect indication of the swill that many right-wingers inexplicably believe — the same swill that has helped the left gain the support of moderates.

“Then there was a Purge!” Give us some more conspiracy theories, dude. “Obama is indoctrinating kids!!!” There we go. You keep it up, and we’ll keep siphoning off the support of normal people who aren’t up to their eyeballs in conspiracy theories about those nefarious left-wingers you’re so afraid of…but please – keep up the unintentionally humorous posts.

  21. Bosch's Poodle Says:

Is it too much to hope that CAP’s crypto-anti-Swiss policy stance will find voice in the new administration? We have been coddling Swiss scum for far too long.

  22. Bosch's Poodle Says:

I never knew the term logical fallacy employed an intercaps.

  23. Bosch's Poodle Says:

I mean, seriously: does anyone confuse TP with, say, volokh.com?

When it comes to occupational licensing…yes.

  24. FearItself Says:

Many times, Mr. Yglesias, have I offered to you unique opportunity to win profit from my need to remove endangered wealth from Nigeria to your conveniently located AMerican checking account, but never do I hear back from you! PLease to simple respond to one of my many emails and we can reach a mutually friendly acommodation, now to be enhanced by my access to halls of powers when my emigration completes! You are make me so happy!

  25. Richard Steven Hack Says:

Matt’s been using his bicycle pump on his dick again, I see.

Sorry, Matt – you’re still a wannabe punk pundit.

  26. Ed Marshall Says:

The weird blogwhore isn’t even normal by talk radio idiot standards. You notice that “LogicalFallacies” bit? That’s not a typo. It’s schizophrenic graphomania funneled through a typewriter. It’s not a one off, he does that over and over and I’m sure it has some sort of significance to him. He seriously needs medical attention. I don’t even feel right joking about him, or needling his paranoia because I think it might be organic.

  27. edsbowlingshoe Says:

Nice to see Richard Steven Hack projecting his only form of pleasure onto someone else though. Very eloquent as well.

  28. stephen curry Says:

Blake Griffin had 25 points and a career-high 21 rebounds and No. 12 Oklahoma overcame the highest-scoring game of Stephen Curry’s career to beat visiting Davidson, 82-78, last night. Curry, who had 44 points, tried to
