Glenn Nye

One House race I was paying especially close attention to was the VA-2 where Thelma Drake (R-VA)’s opponent Glenn Nye happened to be a guy I met in Austin and wound up going to see The Dark Night at one of the outlets of the Austin Cinema Draft House with. I take it he didn’t emphasize his “going to see comic book movies with bloggers” credentials out on the trail, but suffice it to say that I’ll be glad to see a member of congress who not only has extensive experience in foreign affairs but also really knows what Green Lantern is all about.

Why would you go to a movie with someone you just met? Were you writing a story about him?

  2. Comic Book Guy Says:

Your own comic book credentials are in question, Matthew Yglesias. The name of the film does not refer to a dark night, but to the World’s Greatest Detective himself. Anyone who “really knows what Green Lantern is all about” would also certainly know that Batman is also known as The Dark Knight.

Regular spelling and grammar errors we can forgive, but THIS IS AN UNFORGIVABLE TRAVESTY!

…Unless you’re talking about some obscure art film, in which case I withdraw my remarks.

  3. clown Says:

Although the franchise started in Austin, it’s called the Alamo Drafthouse.

    Obscure indeed, Tim:

  5. Aaron Says:

Sorry, it was a late night, that was for CBG.

  6. Brock Says:

You mean “The Dark Knight”, with a K.

  7. rea Says:

Forgiveable–it wasn’t the Batman movie for which Matt’s father wrote the script.

  8. MosBen Says:

Yeah, seriously, most typos I can forgive, but this is just embarrassing.

  9. Don Williams Says:

“going to see comic book movies with bloggers” is not how the Republican would have described it.

They would have went with something more along the lines of :

“Glenn Nye travels out of state to enjoy intimate rendezvous in dark theaters with male companion Matthew Yglesias, the radical leftist. “

  10. Steven desJardins Says:

Until we know Nye’s stance on Rayner v. Jordan, I refuse to accept his credentials.

  11. Aaron-2 Says:

“I’ll be glad to see a member of congress who not only has extensive experience in foreign affairs but also really knows what Green Lantern is all about.”

    Senator Patrick Leahy
    - Chairman of the Foreign Operations Subcommittee
    - role of Unintimidated Gentleman at Party in “The Dark Knight” and Governor of the Utah Territory in *Showdown*, an episode of “Batman: The Animated Series”
    - author of introductions to Green Lantern trade paperbacks

  12. Jennifer Says:

I went to college with that guy! Go Glenn! Do great things!

  13. Anthony Damiani Says:

Ahem. You meant “knight” not “night,” yes?

    —-

Holy crap, he isn’t kidding about Leahy. Except that he wrote the intro to a *Green Arrow* TPB (and also a Batman one, sayeth Wikipedia), not Green Lantern.
