Country X

Now that country first is out, where does that leave us — country last? Country second? Country fifth? Discuss amongst yourselves.

  1. Francisco The Man Says:

    Look, it’s easy.

    Gay Marriage – First
    Socialism – Second
    Dhimmitude – Third
Letting Foreigners be President – Fourth
Gay Marriage Again – Fifth through Ninety-Nine

    Country comes some time later.

  2. gregor Says:

Reaction from the loathsomeness of the NRO Corner:

It is of course a great thing that we are (it seems pretty certain) electing a black President. It’s just a crying shame it had to be this shallow, empty man, who has never shown a flicker of interest in wealth creation, whose head is stuffed with all the vapid nostrums of 1980s student leftism, and who seems — putting the most charitable construction on it — not to mind the brazenly thuggish tactics of his supporters.

  3. 55 Says:

    Country BACK

  4. Njorl Says:

I’d have to put country below blue grass but above classic-era opera. I just can’t stand that stuff.

  5. Spike Says:

    People first.

  6. robert Waldmann Says:

If this doesn’t put the cunt back in country nothing will.

I’ve never enjoyed being a member in my country so much before.

  7. Richard Steven Hack Says:

    Fuck the country.

Why not? That’s been the motto of everybody running it for the last two hundred years.

    “Discuss amongst yourselves.”

We always do, since you’re never around after posting.

  8. Rich Says:

    Country Back!

  9. Richard Steven Hack Says:

By the way, Cameron suggested the Connors move to Canada in this week’s episode.

How she figures to deal with Skynet from up there is beyond me or maybe she doesn’t care about that as long as her secret agenda gets realized – or maybe it was just another dumb writers joke at her expense, as usual.

  10. datadave Says:

Country First was a false battle cry. McCain might have believed it but Republicans wanted “other people” to pay for their wars and profits.

Anyway, I like the switching of slogans and thinking here! Questioning is encouraged. I believe that might be a possibility: American Exceptionalism gives way to Critical Thinking for a change.

A healthy economy for the majority of Americans is a prerequisite for ‘Country First’….or “US first!”. Obama’s going to do a balancing act between labor’s need for a decent livable income and capital’s need for profit. Pump Priming is necessary and fast!

Second, after all our jobs buisiness FLEES to Ireland (first, obvi.) for their low corporate tax rate.

  12. mainstreet Says:

City first, country second! At least, demographically.

  13. Brett Says:

No snark tonight please. Everything is beautiful!

  14. brooksfoe Says:

Hip-hop first. Country third or fourth, I think, after indie rock and maybe electronica.

  15. trademark Says:

country first actually wasn’t that bad a slogan for McCain version 2000. It is too bad McCain 2008 was the one running for president

Obama 2012: Once you go black, you can’t go back

  16. rapier Says:

    People first.

Long ago it occurred to me that Kennedy’s “Ask not…” line was an error. The country, the nation, can easily take care of itself. Besides the fact that wars of conquest are totally a thing of the past we still have those ocean which make us invulnerable. MAD takes care of the rest. The nation can take care of itself.

Government must always serve the citizens. Never should the citizens serve the government.

  17. Clinton/Gore 1992 Says:

People First as in “Putting People First: How We Can All Change America” has already been used.

  18. edsbowlingshoe Says:

    Boiled Cabbage First!

  19. vim876 Says:

I’m just glad that the “Country First” slogan will be gone, because every time I heard it all I could thing about was the America First movement and that Woodie Guthrie song about Lindbergh. If McCain had been president, that song would have been stuck in my head every day for 4 years. I think I’d have gone crazy and killed myself…then again, maybe I could seek asylum somewhere? (Pun intended.)
