Palin v. Lieberman and Cheney

It would be nice if someone could ask the McCain campaign to explain in detail how it is that Sarah “the most qualified of any that has run recently for vice president” Palin is more qualified than other McCain faves like Joe Lieberman and Dick Cheney.

  1. scythia Says:

    9/11 changed everything.

  2. DTM Says:

You have to understand that when he said that, he was holding his hands out cupped in front of his chest and smirking.

  3. ed Says:

    I bet Mixner knows!

  4. DTM Says:

By the way, while Palin herself was clearly more qualified than any other person living or dead or yet to be born–and I am very proud of her–her wardrobe? Not so much.

  5. asl Says:

“She is a governor, the most popular governor in America,” McCain said. “I think she is the most-qualified of any that has run recently for vice president.”>/i>

Personally, I believe ‘most qualified best-dressed governor in America’ is more correct.

  6. fostert Says:

Well, when we think of qualifications, we need to think about what it is that we desire. If you’re one of those End of Days Christianists, you want someone who will bring about the Apocalypse. Who better than Sarah Palin? Lieberman is Jewish, so he might not want things to unfold as told in the Book of Revelations. Cheney may be a freak, but he doesn’t buy that crap, either. Palin really is the first VP candidate to actively desire the Apocalypse. So if that’s your boat, Sarah’s your gal.

  7. DTM Says:

By the way, does anyone else detect in McCain’s repeated “most popular governor in America” claim a hint of “so how was I supposed to know?”

  8. msw Says:

“She has ignited our crowds,” McCain said.
Boy Howdy, that’s true! Lieberman would never have done that. As for Cheney, he may ignite people, but not in public.

  9. neil Says:

Didn’t he mean the most qualified governor of any that has run recently as vice-president? I think the last governor to run for vice-president was Spiro Agnew (or Ed Muskie if he counts), so either he wasn’t as qualified or else he wasn’t recent enough, both of which sound reasonable.

  10. Trevor Says:

By the standards of Bill Kristol, and Joe Lieberman – Palin is the most malleable goyishe VP candidate extant. They can fill her empty head and greedy mouth with moribund Zionist bullshit until it flows out of her ears and lips and she’ll smile like a goober on a hayride all the way to Hell.

  11. duBois Says:

I still love the craziness which is “Sarah!” campaign signs. Sarah! is the ticket, and McCain is the foolish impediment to her gaining power.

    And vice versa, of course.

  12. Jason_M Says:

This is McCain doubling down. “You say she’s not qualified? I’ll see that and raise you, ‘She’s the most qualified ever.’ How’s that??” He doesn’t believe that; he’s just f*****g around.

  13. El Cid Says:

This is one time I might agree with Lieberman.

  14. Glenn Says:

Man, sure didn’t take long for Don Imus to become “respectable” again did it? Of course, if you’re betting on the racist vote like McCain is, I guess it’s a good move.

  15. Njorl Says:

Since the job of vice president is to become president if the president dies, the person most likely to continue living through a president’s death is the most qualified. She has Cheney and Lieberman beat here, assuming Cheney is subject to the phenomenon of death.

  16. Colonel Danite Says:

What he meant to say was that no recent VP candidate was better at pageant walking than Palin. Not even Joe Lieberman can strut down the catwalk the way our Sarah can.

  17. David Says:

Trevor: Knock it off. Yeah I disagree with Kristol and Lieberman on Israel, but can we avoid the anti-Semitic tropes? Your conspiratorial writings bring to mind an old magazine: http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/gpa/sturmer.htm

  18. Michael Bérubé Says:

She has Cheney and Lieberman beat here, assuming Cheney is subject to the phenomenon of death.

There are some who believe that W. himself is the final Horcrux.

  19. Tessa Says:

Actually, I’d like someone to ask McCain what he specifically means by “run for” vice president. Does running for office include holding a press conference? Does it include releasing one’s medical records?

  20. croatoan Says:

You have to understand that when he said that, he was holding his hands out cupped in front of his chest and smirking.

You mean she’s the governor with ‘uge tracts of land?

  21. Chris S. Says:

Neither Lieberman nor Cheney ever held elected office in Alaska. So there.

  22. Russ Says:

Makes me wonder what the race would look if he had picked someone competent and normal like Tom Ridge. I am glad the Palin pick has been such a disaster, but imagine 2/1/2009 president palin being sworn in…

  23. fdeblauwe Says:

Better qualified than Lieberman too? As Julius Caesar said when he was stabbed to death: “Et tu, Brute?” Poooor Joe, shunned or betrayed by Democrats, Republicans and McCain alike. See this great cartoon at the Word Face-Off blog!
