I’m worried that Obama is an elitist who doesn’t understand regular people like me and also I believe that he was personally involved in the September 11th attacks but I’m still gonna vote for him because Republicans are full of shit!
This comes from my hometown (I now live in Berkeley). I know CA is perceived as a liberal state, and it mostly is, but when I found out this came from San Bernardino County, California, I was NOT surprised. There are a lot crazy, backward, obese people there.
But, but, but it’s just pictures of food. I had NO idea they could be considered racist stereotypes. Where are the chitlins, collard greens & Schlitz Malt Liquors?
That’s just . . . yeah . . . wtf? I mean — it’s like . . .
ugh.
Seriously, though, . . . I can’t come up with the right metaphor for the inertness of mind that would — racism aside — come up with that. I keep thinking of rocks, but that’s not quite right. Maybe, like, a table. A toaster. The authors of that joke have about as much imagination as a toaster.
I love how idiots often try to justify racism by saying they meant their racism as a joke. Like Fuzzy Zeller after Tiger Woods one the Masters. And I suppose there’s a narrow truth in that someone might be trying to make fun of racism by mimicking its tropes (though even there I generally detect a fair amount of stereotypage bleeding through), but for the most part racist-sounding jokes rely on racist assumptions for their effects. So I’m sensitive to that. But there’s so much stupid in this little dollar bill mockup that it’s the stupid that disturbs me.
I think John McCain made a mistake picking Pallin as his VP. I realize he needed to energize his base, but her obvious incompetence is hurting him now. He should have picked a dull, but competent, VP, and energized his base by calling Obama a n_____ during the debates. Evidently, that sort of thing appeals to the Republican base.
Will there come a point when enough Republicans are so ashamed of this type of behaviour that they leave en masse to form another party? I don’t say “third” party because hopefully the racist remnant won’t be big enough to contend nationally in elections, but maybe I’m over-optimistic.
But wait this group couldn’t have been Republicans. John McCain said he repudiated any out of bounds attacks by Republicans. John McCain hasn’t repudiated this group ergo this group can’t be Republicans.
One thing I haven’t figured out yet is why so many people have been claiming to be Republicans and launching out of bounds attacks on Barack Obama? I mean clearly since John McCain hasn’t repudiated any of them none of them can be Republicans. Not sure how some of them even got to be Congressman with R’s next to their names, must be some of that voter fraud they keep warning me about.
And perhaps someone should tell John McCain that there is a nefarious group of people out there saying they are his campaign staff and making out of bounds attacks. John, one of them even attacked Michelle Obama for working at a law firm wihtout knowing that Ayers wife worked there too. I mean clearly since John McCain didn’t repudiate them they must not be his actual staff. He probably should check with his accountants and find out how all these people are getting access to his campaign funds.
The other day a friend of mine was out canvassing for the Democrats, and spent a couple hours in a trailer park full of natives (Utes and Navajos mostly), and he said they were polite and friendly almost to man, as they said no one had ever asked them their opinion before and felt rather pleased by the attention. Then he went to a rather upscale house (by comparison) across the street. An old white man answered the door, saw the Obama sticker, and said, “You have 15 seconds to get off my property.”
My friend replied, “Sir, I don’t think that’s enough time–”
The old man reached for something next to the door. My friend put his head down and ran for it. As he vaulted over the fence, the old man yelled, “I’m not voting for that f_cking n_gger, and that f_cking n_gger better not get hisself elected!”
Ironically, food stamps (now called SNAP) these days are mostly distributed via debit card. But it would seem these fools have long since killed irony.
The GOP and its voters have good intentions on the part of black people, honest. They’re just trying to confirm that The Bell Curve is wrong and whites really are stupider.
The group’s president, Diane Fedele, said she plans to send an apology letter to her members and to apologize at the club’s meeting next week. She said she simply wanted to deride a comment Obama made over the summer about how as an African-American he “doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”
“It was strictly an attempt to point out the outrageousness of his statement. I really don’t want to go into it any further,” Fedele said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “I absolutely apologize to anyone who was offended. That clearly wasn’t my attempt.”
So she was insulted by a fairly innocuous, factual statement, and to show it she decided…..look, she doesn’t want to talk about it anymore!
But she will say the food is completely random, no meaning at all on this political flyer. Got it….?
1. What a poor choice of a racist stereotype for the G.O.P. to use. After all who doesn’tlike fried chicken and watermelon?
2. Send this image to Krauthammer. He wrote a dumb piece today about how Obama is playing the race card, by, among other things, warning that the Republicans would say he didn’t look like all the other guys on the dollar bills.
Hey, kids: can anyone spot the hidden racism in the comments? Answer on Page 38!
And, needless to say, to implicitly equate something done by one person leading an organization with about 200 members to the race baiting performed by BHO and his surrogates is beyond even something I thought MattY was capable of.
I agree that watermelon is awesome, but, not to get all John McCain: Worse than Bush on y’all, but I think there are some very good reasons that eating at KFC is objectionable, Chappelle’s views notwithstanding.
The funny thing is that all of these stereotypes are really stereotypes of southerners. I never understood the watermelon and chicken because that’s what my family ate at church parties. But it makes sense as a northern stereotype of african americans that would have taken hold at the turn of the century when a lot of southern migration happened.
I feel a weirdly icked-out even bringing this up, but the choice of the word “buck” in connection with a black man strikes me as unlikely to have been wholly coincidental.
lets see a pic of an early bird special breakfast plus a lunch menu of soup and half a sandwich and in the middle a lincoln towncar driving on the wrong side of the road with FLA plates?
I and every other white person I know love watermelon.
I like artificial watermelon flavor, but do not like actual watermelon.
By the way, seeing as Obama is half-white, shouldn’t there have been some mayonnaise on those ribs, and that fried chicken? Oh, hell, shouldn’t there have been mayonnaise on that watermelon and in the Kool-Aid?
11/09/08: At work a black 56 year old female was offended by my telling a story that another person I know said “they’ll be serving watermelon and chitlins on the white house lawn now on paper plates” Immediatley she yelled and cried and left work and contacted the union and wants to press charges and just is a damn whiner! I hated the job anyway, and she has abused the union contract all year but they’re to afraid to deal with her because she’s black. i quit today because i told the head cheeses they were weak and that what i said was not racist at all. she’s racist if it got to her. i love watermelon and i would eat it on china instead tho. too messy on paper plates! is this how the blacks are going to be now since a black prez has been elected and are they going to expect favors! god i hope not! by the way, i voted for the other guy only because i felt obama just doesn’t have the experience and he just didn’t do anything as senator in il! why vote for a guy who does nothing! maybe he is the antichrist. anyway, i don’t trust him and his eyes are cold.

To me, the most surprising thing is that there are two black women in a Republican women’s club.
