McCain Transition Chief Lobbied for Saddam

mccainface1.jpg

Murray Waas reports:

William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.

The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein’s government.

It was probably thanks to Timmons’ insider information that McCain came to have all that detailed information about Saddam’s secret nuclear weapons programs and ties to al-Qaeda.

Wait, Obama’s being presumptious measuring the drapes– or for the drapes, whatever– but McCain’s got a transition team? Is this SOP, or am I missing something?

  2. slag Says:

Wow. John Hussein McCain. Who knew?

  3. slag Says:

They’ve both got transition teams. It’s SOP.

  4. El Cid Says:

Surely all Americans are disgusted that a man like John McCain, who pals around with the servants of rape rooms and chemical warfare and attempted genocide and Arab tyrant brutality, not only prances around in free society but aspires to the highest office in our land.

  5. Bahrad Says:

Matt’s boss is the head of Obama’s transition team, if I’m not mistaken… We’ll see how long this Timmons guy lasts before the McCain campaign makes him disappear.

  6. John McCain: Worse than Bush Says:

Will any of this get 0.1% the bobblehead noise or news coverage of Ayers? Palin was found guilty of abuse of power, for Christ sake, and baby daddy getting a job got more coverage.

  7. El Cid Says:

Will any of this get 0.1% the bobblehead noise or news coverage of Ayers?

No. 6 weeks of Reverend Wright. And you could have John McCain shown to have been personally gun and drug running for the Contras and giving the profits to pedophiles and at best it would serve for journalists to announce that they would not be discussing such distractions.

  8. Greg Worley Says:

Wonder if this was why Obama was goading McC into mentioning Ayers in the nest debate.

  9. novakant Says:

Matt’s boss is the head of Obama’s transition team

I know we all want to get this over with, but once Obama is elected, can we expect critical journalism from Matt again?

  10. Keith Says:

Greg Worley: I would think so. Or if not, then this was the most conveniently dropped article I’ve ever seen. Seriously, dude lobby on Sadaam’s behalf to have the sanctions dropped. Wasn’t 50% of the reason Bush went into Iraq was because he claimed the sanction regime failed?

  11. tomj Says:

So the McCain campaign is planning to transition into hiding in a spider-hole? Sounds about right. From corrupt regime to banished dictator.

  12. CParis Says:

    @tomj – LOL!

Obama’s transition team is probably full of intellectual, experienced, “elitists”; while McCain’s is staffed by losers from “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

  13. MikeJ Says:

So McCain has a lobbyist for Saddam AND a lobbyist for a Iranian spy on the pay roll. THAT’s fair and balanced.
