McCain and Entitlements

52236079seniorcitizenscrossinggreatbarringtonma_1.jpg

Marc Ambinder points to some Sarah Palin remarks in which she says “John McCain and I will protect the entitlement programs that Americans depend on – and above all, Social Security.” But it was just a few days ago that the McCain campaign decided that rather than raise taxes on health care, they wanted to save money by cutting spending on Medicare and Medicaid. In other words, the very entitlements that Palin just promised to protect.

Meanwhile, it’s still the case that McCain has long favored privatizing Social Security — not protecting it.

The hits just keep on comin’.

Dow off +400 points after Bernanke promised a rate cut. I wonder if McCain’s going to yammer about Social Security tonight. Maybe he’ll tell us that Obama is going to firebomb the Social Security building.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

  3. TW Andrews Says:

Man, they’re just flinging shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.

  4. Rich Says:

Matt, you’re not old enough to understand that you sometimes have to destroy a village, or a program, or a country, to save it.

  5. Joe Sixpack Says:

Why does John McCain hate my grandparents?

  6. Bob Oso Says:

My friends, the liberal gotcha media with its reporting, quoting, and verifying, they are not going to tell you the truth. I am going to save Social Security by putting it on Ebay.

  7. hey norm Says:

cut medicare, privatize social security? you betcha! i wonder what that social security check will look like after todays 500 point drop?

  8. mkd Says:

    Um, hello…

All Palin said was that they were going to protect entitlement programs- she didn’t say anything about funding them. Dontchknow entitlement programs are easier to protect when they’re small enough to fit in your pocket.

    Palins’ Un-American Activities

Imagine if the Obamas had hooked up with a violently anti-American group in league with the government of IRAN!. By David Talbot

Oct. 7, 2008 | “My government is my worst enemy. I’m going to fight them with any means at hand.” This was former revolutionary terrorist Bill Ayers back in his old Weather Underground days, right? Imagine what Sarah Palin is going to do with this incendiary quote as she tears into Barack Obama this week. ONLY ONE PROBLEM. The quote is from Joe Vogler, the raging anti-American who founded the Alaska Independence Party. Inconveniently for Palin, that’s the very same secessionist party that her husband, Todd, belonged to for seven years and that she sent a shout-out to as Alaska governor earlier this year. (”Keep up the good work,” Palin told AIP members. “And God bless you.”)

McCain Camp cannot talk about the economy because their Economics is for the Rich, the well-off and the well connected!

  10. The Other Steve Says:

John McCain and I will protect the entitlement programs that Americans depend on – and above all, Social Security.

Umm, this is wingnutspeak. They are saying, if we don’t cut social security and medicare we are going to have a crisis and the programs will go away. So to protect them we have to cut them.

  11. wiley Says:

I’ve got to wonder what percentage of McCain supporters are retired and living solely on Social Security. And who is actually running his campaign.

Yeah, Other Steve, killing the village to save it is right up McCain’s alley.
