Pennsylvania GOP warns Keystone State Jews that Barack Obama is going to send us chosen folk into the ovens:
A new e-mail making the rounds among Jewish voters in Pennsylvania this week falsely alleged that Mr. Obama “taught members of Acorn to commit voter registration fraud,’’ and equated a vote for Senator Barack Obama with the “tragic mistake” of their Jewish ancestors, who “ignored the warning signs in the 1930’s and 1940’s.” [...]
But where most of the attack e-mails against Mr. Obama have been mostly either anonymous or from people outside of mainstream politics, this one had an unusually official provenance: It was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Republican Party’s “Victory 2008” committee.
And it was signed by several prominent McCain supporters in the state: Mitchell L. Morgan, a top fund-raiser; Hon. Sandra Schwartz Newman, a member of Mr. McCain’s national task-force monitoring Election Day voting, and I. Michael Coslov, a steel industry executive.
This is so absurd I’m not even going to bother to be outraged. Someone ought to tell these people, though, that there’s some kind of baseline level of plausibility that your attacks need to reach if you want them to be effective. You can say a candidate’s health care plan will cost your family money, you can’t say that a candidate’s health care plan involves chopping up babies and serving them as medicinal.
October 25th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Even though babies actually have many medicinal properties! Political discourse in this country is ridiculous.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Wow, it has been an excellent couple of days for Pennsylvania Republicans, hasn’t it? They are really distinguishing themselves. Good thing McCain isn’t relying on PA as his only chance for victory…
October 25th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
Jews, quite correctly, worry more about the Palintariat and the Dictatorship of the Palintariat.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
I. Michael Coslov, a steel industry executive
Yep, if there’s anyone I would trust for being forward-thinking, capable of intelligent analysis, and talented at predicting future trends, it’s an executive from the American steel industry!
October 25th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
“chopping up babies and serving them as medicinal.” (sic)
Well, the chicken pox vaccine is made from the cell lines of long ago aborted babies…
October 25th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Bet Michelle Obama’s Jewish cousins would be surprised to hear that her family has anti-Semitic views. Good grief, is it too much to ask that these Republicans pick up a paper once in a while?
October 25th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
The Republicans just fucked up and lost McCain the Reading and York vote.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Do they think there will be mass amnesia after Nov. 4th? This is plain lunacy!
October 25th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
That’s a very handsome portrait of the Fuhrer.
It isn’t that these howls. this one and Gaffney’s. are going to be effective for election purposes it’s that millions of people believe it. Gaffney’s is particularly dangerous because it should be seen as stoking paranoia among the more paranoid right within the military, and we know they are there. How high up is the main question.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
I wonder what my Jewish Republican Senator Arlen Spector thinks of this email? And my Jewish Democratic Governor Ed Rendell?
“Springtime for Hitler and Germany
Deutschland is happy and gay!
We’re marching to a faster pace
Look out, here comes the master race! “
October 25th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
the “tragic mistake” of their Jewish ancestors, who “ignored the warning signs in the 1930’s and 1940’s.”
What were the “warning signs” in the 40’s? Trucks coming and hauling your relatives away? “Well, the Communists would be worse, I’m still voting for Hitler!”
October 25th, 2008 at 4:31 pm
God these guys are so incredibly stupid. Every day is a new disaster.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:32 pm
Do they think there will be mass amnesia after Nov. 4th? This is plain lunacy!
Only if we allow them to forget the absurdities they spouted. Personally, I’m hoping every discussion of Andy McCarthy from now on begins with “Andy McCarthy, who repeatedly claimed that Barack Obama forged his birth certificate…”
October 25th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
While I don’t endorse voter fraud, it can’t be compared with the Holocaust. Plenty of countries have had somewhat rigged elections for decades, and never committed genocide. Which is not to imply that Mr. Obama is implicated in the ACORN scandal, I’m sure he isn’t.
That said, Matt, your line about chopping babies up and using them for medicinal purposes, is singularly obtuse. Plenty of pro-lifers would see that as a rather poetic, but not inaccurate, description of Mr. Obama’s support of embryonic stem-cell research. Not to mention his infamous record on the Born-Alive Infants Bill, although there was nothing medicinal about that.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Because, hey, nothing says “anti-Nazi” like telling Big Lies to the country and then scrapping several parts of the Bill of Rights.
Along with starting an unnecessary war and threatening to exterminate the rest of the planet.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:46 pm
Re Hector’s comment “That said, Matt, your line about chopping babies up and using them for medicinal purposes, is singularly obtuse. Plenty of pro-lifers would see that as a rather poetic, but not inaccurate, description of Mr. Obama’s support of embryonic stem-cell research.”
—————-
Hector, you left out the part about Obama chopping up CHRISTIAN babies. Don’t want to leave that out.
Republican voters only care about Christian babies — if they’re –say– Arab babies, then Republicans don’t give a shit.
Bush has probably made more Iraqi babies into fish chum than all the abortion clinics in America, but that rolls over the evangelists like a cool summer breeze.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
Someone ought to tell these people, though, that there’s some kind of baseline level of plausibility that your attacks need to reach if you want them to be effective.
You could argue that for the past eight years the Bush Administration has used this to their advantage. If we accurately describe what they’ve done (for instance, the wholesale torture or the unitary executive theory), it doesn’t reach the baseline level of plausibility, so it’s hard to make it stick.
October 25th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
He’s a Muslim! And a Terrorist! And a Communist! AND a Nazi! C’mon, fer Chrissakes, people — when will you WAKE UP?
October 25th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
Crap! Forgot the Gaffney et al thread…
He’s a Muslim! And a Terrorist! And a Communist! AND a Nazi! And a Pacifist! {And he’s black! Blaaaaaaaaaack!}
Clearly America needs to stand up to the Islamo-Communist Terrorist Nazi Pacifist {black} threat from Obama, and quicklike!
October 25th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Re Hector
I have a flash for Mr. Hector. There is no ACORN scandal. This is a big lie propagated by the Rethuglicans to deny hundreds of thousands of new voters their vote. Attached is a link to an article in the Michigan Messenger by Ed Brayton (who, by the way has announced that he is not voting for either Obama or McCain). This phony scandal is nothing more then a Rethuglican attempt to steal the election in 2008.

Ah, liberal fascism. Socialism, sodomy, and sharia. Mandatory vegetarianism. We got our work cut out for us.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
Also, to be fair to German Jews of the 1930s, they tended NOT to vote Nazi.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
The mailer is stupid, however:
1. BHO lied about his links to ACORN and, when the truth came out, he quickly changed his website to match the newtruth. BHO was never directly hired by them, and was always never directly hired by them. (Yes, I sent an email to Sully with three similar allusions but, obviously, he’s unable to see what’s in front of his nose).
2. Many of BHO’s supporters are “interesting”, and he’s taken no steps whatsoever to rein them in. Many would otherwise be joining up with Scientology, so perhaps the BHO campaign serves at least one good purpose. But, even more worrisome is that some of his supporters clearly have fascistic tendencies. No, really: check out those DailyKos links.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Obama is a Commie-Nazi! Somebody call McBain!
October 25th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
ACORN has done nothing wrong, I support and admire ACORN, and I wish to thank the Republican right wing for inspiring me to donate money to them again for the good they have done for our country.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
LOL. So true! I was going to have my thetans audited but I couldn’t afford it, so I donated to Obama instead.
October 25th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Wow, I better look into this.
*”BooMan” says: “Jerome Corsi wrote a nasty, dishonest book about Barack Obama. Jerome Corsi went to Kenya to try to promote the book. Jerome Corsi was arrested and will be deported. He’s actually lucky that the police dealt with him, rather than the people.” In other words, BooMan suggest that violence is the proper response to speech he doesn’t like.”
Fail.
October 25th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Geez, who’s the handsome politician at the top of the post? I don’t know much about his program, but I hear he’s a war hero, a vegetarian, teetotaler, and quit smoking!
October 25th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
AMERICA, WAKE UP. OUR NEW PRESIDENT IS GOING TO BE A BLACK.
I MEAN A RED.
I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THERE. I TOTALLY MEANT “RED” THE WHOLE TIME.
I AM COLORBLIND AND POSTRACIAL (UNLIKE DEMOCRATS!!)
October 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
With a subject like this I was hoping for a much more funny comment thread. As it is it’s merely hilarious. Man up, people.
“But, even more worrisome is that some of his supporters clearly have fascistic tendencies.”
Not only that, we’re really pathetic, wussy fascists. What does it take for a white girl in Philly to get beat up for real by a black Obama fascist? A lot, is the answer. She has to do it herself, which should make you brown shirts hang your heads in shame.
October 25th, 2008 at 9:18 pm
Can’t you see, the yellow peril have even named a town after him, he is the spawn of THE AXIS. He would never get American generals on board like RE Lee just losers like Grant.
October 25th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Wow… that mailer is really low. Seriously, what is going on with the McCain camp? It’s like they are intentionally sabotaging themselves.
And to all the conspiracy theory nuts:
Look, when you start spouting off about your conspiracies, don’t try and lump them all together. It simply reinforces the fact that your crazy.
Case in point: Acorn+scientology+fascism = looney tunes category. Next time, pick the least crazy sounding argument and run with that. Unfortunately when you say things like “xyz won’t report the facts despite me sending him 586749 emails” and then add lots of ellipses, it only makes you sound crazier.
I’ll admit, the “Obama is a socialist” line was clever (albeit dishonest) but then I realized that McCain advocated for “spreading the wealth” and a progressive tax system during the 2000 primaries. Shoot, he even said it wasn’t socialism! Yeah, um… that’s awkward: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2JPbQOHEkY.

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1031235.html
I can’t find the full text of this email anywhere but it seems like it was arguing that if McCain isn’t elected Iran will go nuclear and annihilate Israel. It’s not saying that Obama is a “Nazi” in the way that previous attacks have accused him of being a “Communist.” Yeah it’s extremely inflammatory to bring up the Holocaust but the comparison isn’t really unfair or out of bounds; I think the fear that Iran would attack Israel is a fairly common one, and it would be a second holocaust if that happened.
October 26th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Don Williams,
Actually, the high-end estimates for Iraq war casualties are slightly over 1 million. The number of abortions in the USA in one year is about 800,000- so two years of abortions kills more people than five and a half years of Iraq war.
Arabs can be Christians, by the way, and the Iraqi Christians have suffered a lot in the war.
October 26th, 2008 at 2:12 pm
I agree that this is absurd, but it seems to me not to be extraordinary, but rather merely meat-and-potatoes rhetoric about US policy towards the Middle East and Israel. Somebody seems to typing this stuff out every day for as long as I can remember.
October 26th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Just being picky, but the better translation of “yes we can” is “Ja, wir schaffen es.”
