Fun With URLs

From reader CMH:

A Conservative blogger on The Politico posted this site http://www.democratnationalcommittee.com/index.htm as proof that Obama actually is a communist, as the real Obama logo has been subtly altered to feature a red star instead of his normal logo. His ‘proof’ was based upon the name of the site. I thought it was just a tasteless prank until I looked into the background of the company selling the merchandise. The misleading web address democratnationalcommittee.com is relayed back to http://victorystore.com/ . This to me was proof that it wasn’t the DNC selling this merchandise. I then looked further into it, and victorystore.com is owned by Victory Enterprises (www.victoryenterprises.com) . When you look to see who represents the company, it turns out that it is owned and run by Steve Grubbs (http://victoryenterprises.com/about_us.htm) . Steve Grubbs also happens to be the Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa.

At this point one doubts that sophomoric pranks of this nature are going to swing anything important. But it’s good to keep our eyes on this kind of nonsense.

The Republican droids can’t even turn off their “Democrat Party” programming to do some decent ratf***ing.

  2. Traven Says:

Its phoniness is obvious from the words “DEMOCRATnational…” instead of “DEMOCRATICnational…” Only Republicans refer to the Democratic party as the “Democrat” party. You’d think your conservative blogger friend would know that.

Njori – ya beat me to it. Morons forgot to de-bastardize “Democratic” for this effort. Fail.

It’s weird, because a lot of the merchandise on the site seems completely fine Democratic gear. I kind of like the “chicks dig my tiny carbon footprint” t-shirt.

Due to manufacturer error the tie features “Teddy Roosevelt” instead of Franklin Roosevelt.

I really, really hate that kind of stuff, and I just sent steve@victoryenterprises.com a little billet-doux to the effect that the voters of this country want to be represented by serious adults, not sophomoric pranksters. I mean, honestly.

  8. Rich Says:

You know, the Obama campaign graphics are the intellectual property of the campaign, and you can’t alter them to make a commercial product without their permission. It would be nice if Obama’s lawyering-up permitted him to sue the appropriately-named Mr. Grubbs for real cash money, rather than some cease-and-desist order that lacks real relevance at this point.

LOL. Powerline is crazy. In other news, dog bites man.

Pepsi’s logo has been a red and blue circle bisected by a swirl since before I was born. The new logo is still a red and blue circle but the swirl is going in a different direction. Ergo, John at Powerline reasons, they’re trying to jump on the Obama bandwagon. Riiight.

I’m not sure the logo was actually altered. I’ve seen a few yard signs here in Illinois (where there was obviously early support) with the same star logo. It seems to me that it was an early variation that has since been scrapped.
