Debateblog

I’ll be contributing to the factcheck/liveblog of the debate over at ThinkProgress and also offering some thoughts (probably more post-debate than during-debate) over here as well. Enjoy.

UPDATE: It’s worth saying, I suppose, that I have a very hard time imagining this debate actually being consequential in terms of determining the outcome of this election.

It’s going to suck even more than a usual debate. Palin’s been instructed not to say anything even approaching substance, and Biden will be too on guard, afraid of appearing like a jackass.

You could watch the Canadian leaders’ debate instead. The French language debate was last night. When are your French language debates?

    (Sorry.)

ok — thanks for the info.

  4. John West Says:

Of the four candidates seeking executive office, only Sarah Palin wasn’t among the six dozen prancing Wall Street whores doing their masters’ business at last night’s Quadroon Ball on the Senate floor. To my mind that makes her cleaner than the other three. If she had the chance, would she be for sale too? Maybe. But with the others it’s a given.

  5. cd Says:

Anyone else see that Palin was on CBS News with Couric again tonight?

Answering what was the worst thing Cheney has done as VP :

“worst thing, I guess that would have been the duck-hunting accident, where you know, that was an accident. And that I think that was made into a caricature of him. And that was kind of unfortunate.”

    Riiiiiggghhhhtttt

  6. Jeffrey Davis Says:

If she had the chance, would she be for sale too? Maybe. But with the others it’s a given.

That reminds me of the SJ Perelman quote after someone had accused him of being for sale. (from memory) “I replied that I had sold out in 1933 and regarded all sales as final.”

Palin strikes me as having a little petrol in her old dance cards.

I’ll be liveblogging too. Forgetting Missouri is in the Central Time Zone, I’ve already started…

  8. Big Sneezy Says:

The “Dumbate.” Anyone heard that one yet? I’ll claim credit for it.

I have low hopes for the Dumbate. Debates are usually about playing defense and avoiding the big mistake, so it would be really surprising if anyone did anything remotely interesting. I think we’ll see a lot of post-Dumbate analysis about Palin’s style of glasses or Joe Biden sneezing.

  9. phil Says:

I’m sick of hearing about “threshold tests”. It’s nice when politicians can at least pass the bare minimum performance test, but it’d be nice to expect more.

Just want to say the Think Progress liveblog is the best I’ve seen today. Great work!

  11. elle loco Says:

Matt: When Palin went off on Biden about the war resolution of October 2002–did you hear a bell ring?

You, and many others, have refused to hear Biden’s (and Hillary’s) explanation for why they voted for it–and a very rational vote it was, given that no one (oh, yeah, except a buncha recent Harvard grads) were prepared to believe that President Bush was just blowing bullshit on using the brinksmanship of that resolution to avoid going to war.

The ignorance and stupidity of your refusal to acknowledge the nuances and fine points of that debate are in that wolverine smile of hers. Congrats! Adn I still blurbed your book–go figure!
