Cell Tower

It’s still the case that my new house gets lousy AT&T service. I’d like to get a special tower set up only for my benefit. But I can’t get it. It seems, though, that John McCain can. Despite his campaign’s denials, and despite Verizon’s denials, it’s increasingly clear that Verizon did in fact try quite hard to install a permanent tower on the McCain ranch at the request of Cindy McCain. Meanwhile, McCain is the top Senator on the committee that regulates Verizon. It looks pretty corrupt to me.

UPDATE: A little vintage McCain:

“The appearance of it was wrong,” McCain said. “It’s a wrong appearance when a group of senators appear in a meeting with a group of regulators because it conveys the impression of undue and improper influence. And it was the wrong thing to do.”

Of course these days McCain denies he did anything wrong related to the Keating 5.

There are products from companies such as Wi-Ex which boost your cellphones signal into your own home massively. They aren’t cheap, but set up correctly can be very effective.

There are other brands and I am not endorsing one or another, this was one I could remember off-hand.

This is clearly a case of favoritism. I don’t know whether it could be considered an unlawful campaign contribution or a gift, but it certainly would be worth taking a look at.

I complained to T-Mobile on several occasions over the course of a year including submitting detailed information about the coverage I receive in my home, on the street in front of my home, etc. In the end T-Mobile let me out of my 2-year contract rather than installing another tower near my home.

There are also other methods to pursue…

I haven’t looked into this, but I’d tend to think there’s quite a difference between a Verizon contractor and Verizon itself. To help MattY understand that, it would be like assuming that an independent contractor cable guy speaks for the company with which he has a contract but by which he isn’t employed.

On a side note, I see that “The Progress Report” is smacking down that “Joe the Plumber” charlatan. Now that I’ve endorsed Barack Obama, how do I get involved in fighting against this menace to The One? Could County Leader Andrew Sullivan add me to the mailing list?

  6. Bob Says:

The one thing that’s never made sense to me, putting aside the other timing issues, is how a purported Secret Service request for Verizon coverage under an exclusive contract with Verizon led to an AT&T temporary tower? They’ve really tried to just blur out the AT&T aspect, which has no innocent explanation.

I don’t doubt Verizon’s craven motives. But if you mean the Commerce Committee, McCain is obviously not the top Senator there.
Inouye is the Chairman, Hutchison is the Ranking Member.
After that in seniority on the R side comes Stevens, then McCain. On the D side, Kerry and Rockefeller both have seniority over McCain too.

Up with cell-phone tower pork! Down with planetariums!

  12. vicky Says:

Keating Five McCain always complains about “Washington insiders” – McCain has been one for over 25 years! McCain is such a douchebag.

  13. Ragout Says:

If you want your own cell phone tower, why don’t you just stop whining and get elected to the Senate?
