If I hadn’t donated, I would find this figure cheering. But I’m about half maxed-out, and it depresses me that what represents such a large investment for me is such a tiny piece of the overall take. (That and the fact that 1K is enough to buy about 3 seconds of primetime airtime in Walla Walla WA).
But those are just my grumpy feelings. I’m glad Obama is flooding the zone.
NYT: While McCain said he was not suggesting the Obama campaign had done anything illegal or improper, he said ”history shows us where unlimited amounts of money are in political campaigns, it leads to scandal.”
McCain is now predicting that Obama will do something wrong because people gave him too much money.
Maybe they should change public financing such that you can still accept small donations even if you accept public financing. i.e. instead of a $3000 cap, it drops to, say, $100.
Is there any nation which allows this sort of hybrid?

What’s McCain’s average donation? Median for each?

I guess we won’t be reading about Obama pulling out of any states.
At this point in 2004, Kerry had pulled his ads in MO. Obama will still lose the state but it keeps McCain bogged down.

MikeKC–
Rasmussen, SurveyUSA, PPP and Zogby have Obama up in MO (CNN has McCain by 1). I imagine it helps that it borders Illinois.

“History shows us where unlimited amounts of money are in political campaigns, it leads to scandal.” – John McCain

Furthermore, even reduce public financing by $0.50 for $1 raised in small donations.

The math doesn’t quite work out. 150 million dollars with 3.1 million contributors averages out to like 48 bucks a head, not 86.

McCain is jut worried that the next president will be in the pocket of his campaign contributors…like me.

I think the 3.1 million is the number of donors over the entire course of the campaign, while the $86 is the average donation for September.
