The Stature Gap

NBC, at least, is gerrymandering their split screen views of the two candidates in such a way as to obscure the fact that Barack Obama is considerably taller than John McCain.

After a week of $700 billion negotiation, earmarks are a let down.

  2. scythia Says:

can we comment over here? i don’t have TP rights, apparently.

anybody else not happy so far? mccain is setting the tone in round two. can we shut the fuck up about earmarks already?

  3. scythia Says:

drilling offshore=good stuff? omfg…this is as bad as mccain’s pen “well, it’s pretty old…[blink]“

  4. Kat with a K Says:

    Isn’t McCain standing on something?

  5. Aleks Says:

PBS shows them together but they’re far enough apart that the height difference isn’t clear.

  6. asl Says:

    Socialized medicine. Bring it on.

  7. scythia Says:

it’s not just the budget. it’s iraq. that’s the reason we’re in debt to the chinese. you get a two-fer. pick it up.

    why can’t obama…finish…a…a, a sentence.

fuck maybe i’m concern trolling but i think mccain is winning…

  8. scythia Says:

“Senate inside baseball?” Homie, are you kidding me??? “That’s not true.”?? Where is the offense?

  9. dbt Says:

Obama needs to stop letting Lehrer and McCain interrupt him and shut down the old fogey once in a while..

  10. scythia Says:

    “songs about bombing iran”

    yeeaahh! crushin! feeling better now.

  11. No Comment Says:

This has been done in every Presidential debate I’ve ever watched.

  12. Bradamante Says:

Perversely, watching CBS. Looks like McCain is indeed standing on something.

I’m not feeling so happy about things, either. McCain seems like he’s memorized some good lines, and is stumbling to get to them in between. But Obama is trying to actually talk about the issues (except when he seriously ducked the what-will-you-cut-or-leave-out question) in a forum that doesn’t allow for such an approach. He has a few lines to go to, but not as many as McCain.

    on Iran …

No, no, Barack, don’t do it! Stop explaining things!!! I know it’s hard, but you can do it!!!

  13. scythia Says:

Liked the Iran thing. That was smart.

Did McCain just say “Dear Leader”??? LOLOLOL!

  14. scythia Says:

Why does Obama defer to the moderators. McCain just runs on they don’t stop him. Same thing happened with Bush and Kerry.

    It’s almost like…wait, I know it’s a metaphor for something…lemme put my finger on it…

True. He’s making Nixon’s mistake in the 1960 debate with Kennedy – actually treating it as though it’s a debate. It’s not.

  16. 24AheadDotCom Says:

Looks like McCain is taking The One to school.

  17. pseudonymous in nc Says:

Not in Oxford, Kellybot? The Klan’s there. They love you.

Not really, dude. Go make yourself another shit sandwich. Grownups are talking.

I don’t understand why he’s not pressing McCain. Nuclear waste is a huge issue–it’s the key to picking up Nevada. Painting McCain as out of touch with AZ paints him as out of touch on the whole and puts him on the defensive. Why kiss Lehrer’s ass?

  19. scythia Says:

Don’t like the laugh. How about incredulous gape?

  20. kafka Says:

Go make yourself another shit sandwich.

There’s still time for that cold brew.

  21. Hector Says:

Matt, who gives a flying f*ck about McCain’s height?

  22. scythia Says:

and inexplicably, the post-debate spin is for…Obama? WTF? Good god, I hate the Village…

  23. JimboSlice Says:

I noticed that. You could see like 3 inches of the podium for John McCain and none for Obama. I was looking at that, shocking that GE would want McCain to win and support their nuke investments.

  24. susanthe Says:

I’d love to see a debate where the podiums were on a flat stage, and neither candidate was wearing makeup. Time for some reality TV.

  25. Anthony Damiani Says:

My understanding is that those sorts of things are negotiated in advance, as part of the debate terms. Is that not the case?

  26. cay Says:

    McCain was wearing lifts.
