Just Can’t Stop

Sarah Palin lies and claims she didn’t use a teleprompter while delivering her convention speech.

  1. El Cid Says:

I suppose next you’re going to tell us it’s not true when Sarah Palin claims to have invented the first color television broadcast.

  2. David Says:

I hear she invented Post-it notes and negotiated the START treaty–for which she was chosen after her pivotal role in the Helsinki accords.

  3. DTM Says:

And after she talked straight to Ohio, business leaders watching in China and Mexico were so inspired they moved 100,000 manufacturing jobs to the state the next morning.

  4. nukev Says:

Actually, as a fetus she ended the Cuban Missile Crisis.

  5. anonymiss Says:

There is something seriously wrong with her.

  6. Neil the Ethical Werewolf Says:

This is why I’ve been building a website for the Palin Truth Squad!

  7. SHF Says:

Pathological. That’s the word you’re looking for.

  8. Roddy McCorley Says:

Well, I was gonna say “pathological” but SHF beat me to it. Well played!

Has Governor Palin claimed she invented the internet yet? Seeing as how no one has actually made that claim yet, it’s still up for grabs…

  9. msw Says:

Did you catch Palin’s running mate on Morning Joe? That McCain dude sure seems aggravated and that’s odd since Palin/McCain are up in the polls.
He keeps admitting that he only lies about people behind their back and he would never lie about Obama to his face. That’s strait talk my friends.

  10. George Says:

Does anyone else get the impression that Alaska is a lot like high school?

  11. DTM Says:

Personally, I am not convinced McCain and Palin are pathological liars. They are certainly frequent liars, but their lying seems pretty calculated to me, and it remains to be seen if their calculations are wrong.

  12. Jake Says:

Did you catch Palin’s running mate on Morning Joe? That McCain dude sure seems aggravated and that’s odd since Palin/McCain are up in the polls.

Yup. He was one ANGRY OLD dude on the teevee this morning. He seems perturbed to keep getting asked about the truthiness of the kindergarten ads he’s been running.

  13. msw Says:

Stop for a moment and ask yourself what the media would be talking about if Joe Biden told an out and out lie every time he took the stage.
Imagine it was Joe Biden under investigation for anything. Imagine if Biden was under investigation and refused to talk to the press. Would the press be showing deference?

  14. gregor Says:

Imagine a Democratic ticket with the top spouse being an
(ex?) drug addict and the VP’s spouse with a DUI conviction
under his/her belt, and the VP candidate with a kid pregnant before
    marriage.

At the very least, the heads of cable nooz pundits would explode.

The problems is ultimately Democrats’ inability to control
    the message and the media.

  15. Rachel Says:

Pfft, I’ve been using the word “pathological” since last week.

  16. Jeffrey Davis Says:

The range of “IOKIYAR” moments in the campaign are so many you can hold them up to the light like a glass of vintage wine. For me, the Alaskan Separatist husband is grand cru stuff. What makes it swoon/swine worthy was the Obama fist bump outcry.

Of course, refusing to cooperate with Troopergate would be in a class by itself, but it has a pedigree and competition: Bush refused to cooperate with the Justice Department in his insider trading investigation. You knew that the day after the Justice Department closed its investigation that Bush turned over the memo showing that he’d been advised not to sell his stock, didn’t you? Bile is no substitute for wine, but we must make do with what we can.

  17. Jeffrey Davis Says:

OK. OK. Let’s play “Can You Top This?”

    I’ll go first.

Republicans have a plan to purge voter rolls by challenging people whose homes have been foreclosed. (Indirectly, of course, by using returned mail as the pretext.)

It’s like charging women for their rape kits. And then making sure they paid the sales tax, too.

  18. SHF Says:

Here’s a new one. Apparently McCain helped invent the Blackberry. Seriously….

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/HoltzEakin_McCain_helped_create_BlackBerry.html?showall

  19. msw Says:

Alas, McCain is a republican so the Blackberry line simply will not work.

  20. Aatos Says:

Ya sure, but what were those glass things with the words projected on them? Please don’t tell me we have to watch her speech again.

  21. big e Says:

It’s funny that they are raising from the dead already discredited rumors about themselves that they already tried to start. These are new and improved zombie lies!

  22. moose_jaw Says:

On the topic of Palin lies, why aren’t more people discussing whether she has repeatedly lied about a key aspect of the ongoing ethics investigation – specifically, having any knowledge of her staff pressuring Monegan to fire Wooten? Palin is currently claiming executive privilege (see all the details here http://theenlighteneddespot.wordpress.com/2008/09/15/the-last-word-on-the-troopergate-emails/) for emails requested by private citizen Andree McLeod, including emails sent to Palin the night before and morning of the infamous phone call placed by Frank Bailey to Rodney Dial. Because Todd Palin, not a state employee, was copied on the emails, her claim of privilege might be revoked. Why isn’t this garnering more attention?

  23. E. O'Neal Says:

This was reported at the time. The teleprompter wasn’t stopping at applause lines and at times got ahead temporarily. She handled it with aplomb by any standard. The same thing happened to Clinton at a State of the Union and the audience couldn’t tell because he didn’t miss a beat.

  24. James F. Elliott Says:

But… but… I frigging saw it! Well, who am I going to believe, Palin or my lying eyes?

  25. Michael Jackson Says:

    Can’t stop lying to you?

  26. Colatina Says:

“VP’s spouse with a DUI conviction
    under his/her belt”

Hey, lay off Todd Palin. I don’t like his wife but if she gets to be president he’ll be one of the coolest First Spouses ever. DUI shouldn’t even count in Alaska. The most you’re likely to do is run off the road and freeze to death in a snowbank. I’m sure he’d be a bad political leader if he ran for office, but I don’t think it’s been verified that he actually speaks so we shouldn’t worry about that.
