Former Rep. Bob Barr, currently running for President on the Libertarian Party line, complains about not being allowed to address Ron Paul’s Rally for the Republic:
Instead, he was lurking around the lobby shaking as many hands as possible.
MattY has a very special series of posts today, but he obviously hasn’t taken my advice about spending more than a few seconds of thinking time on each. As for why BB hasn’t been welcomed with open arms, perhaps it’s because they’ve figured out how much of a fake he is.
Conversely, might the curious number of posts devoted to Paul’s rally have something to do with Matt’s having access there rather than within the GOP’s hall? It’s a good lesson in media bias, in how others have cultivated favorable press coverage. Dare we mention Bush over Gore, McCain over everyone else, or administration leaks to, say, Judith Miller? Bloggers think they’re special, but they may be even cheaper to buy off if they’re not careful, since they don’t even have the burden of doing much reporting.
Or, yet another alternative: Matt is interested in what Ron Paul & co. are up to not only because he has access but also because Ron Paul and Bob Barr’s precise choices could easily change the results of the election. See also: Ralph Nader, Ross Perot, etc. Paul would surely have been a stronger candidate than Nader . . .
It’s an absolute tragedy that Paul didn’t run as a libertarian. What an epic loss that would have been for McCain!

Wasn’t the Rally For The Republic the name of Jacques Chirac’s party?

I hope Paul and Barr have been down to wherever it is they are holding the demonstrators who were arrested. Maybe Matt too.

Yes, until 2002 or so, when it changed to “Union for a Popular Movement.”
