Travel Schedule

Just as a heads up, this blog and your humble blogger will not be in Denver for the Democratic Convention this week. I will, presumably, watch some stuff on TV and form opinions about it. But next week I will be at the Republican Convention in St. Paul which should be a lot less fun but probably better for blogging purposes.

be sure to wear your stars-n-stripes underwear. i hear they’re going to check at the door this year. they’ll upgrade your seating, if you’ve got a Bible stuffed in there, too.

oh, and purple heart Band-Aids are right out. don’t bring them. the GOP loves military service this year.

A better observer we could not ask for. Take care of yourself. Try not to have any bridges fall down on you.

  3. Calvin Jones and the 13th Apostle Says:

Are they going to serve booze at Republican convention. Will you actually be able to play drinking games to Rudy’s speech on the convention floor?

  4. RandyH Says:

Check out the billboard that The Daily Show got (at the MSP airport) to greet the Republicans for their convention.

    MY:
Stoller sayd that Cass Sunstein is PO’ed at you. I guess he’ll be looking in the wrong place for you since you won’t be in Denver.

  6. Chris Says:

You’ll probably be pretty busy with con stuff, but let us know if you need food/bar/entertainment suggestions in town. The twin cities are full of awesome things, but it’s a little challenging to find them sometimes.

  7. Nicholas Beaudrot Says:

I hope you have another enlightening encounter with the GOP element.

  8. Alex Says:

Will you be covering Ron Paul’s counter-rally in St. Paul?

  9. SHF Says:

Be careful in the bathroom at the airport!

  10. CG Says:

This soundbyte seriously needs to get some traction.. it needs to be put in Obama’s ads and played over and over again in every corner of the country:

  11. Chris O. Says:

Coming to my neck of the woods, eh? I’ll be sure to wave if I see you.

  12. Deborah Says:

    Less fun?!!
Get a big camera and run around trying to record pictures of Republicans scurrying away from most of the well-known Republicans and any sign that says “Republican” or “McCain.” Then blog about the steps they take to hide.

Those of you who hadn’t heard of MattY until he joined TP are in for a treat!

At The Atlantic, MattY specialized in real reporting and was known for asking newsmakers questions designed to point out the flaws in their policies. Not only that, but MattY called several newsmakers on their lies… right to their faces!

MattY continually put the MSM to shame as he resolutely – like a bulldog – followed the money and held newsmakers accountable.

The GOP is not going to know what hit them.

  14. Tom Says:

Good choice! The GOP parties are wilder, what with all those repressed Christians being away from home for the first time in four years.

    “Better for blogging purposes”

Well, what’s better for newspapers and TV news is sex and violence, as in, “If it bleeds, it leads.” I guess what’s better for blogging purposes is bat-shit insanity and shameless mendacity, and no doubt there’ll be plenty of that on display at the Republican conclave.

I’m not sure that the difference speaks well of us. You can at least understand why normal people would be interested by sex and violence, even if pandering displays of such drag natural desires and concerns out to problematic lengths. But a prurient interest in intellectual pathology seems problematic from the outset, fellow pervs.

  16. Chris D. Says:

Matt, I’d be interested to hear your take on the (mostly anarchist) RNC Welcoming Committee and the blockade it’s planning to set up around the Convention this Sept. 1-4. (A similar gathering will take place at the DNC in Denver.)

My sense is that this will be a pretty ineffective mobilization. By employing these militant tactics, I think the blockaders are inviting beatings, jailings, and the caricaturing of themselves and their ideals by the mainstream media.

But then again, I have friends who will be standing proud with the Welcoming Committee, and if they wind up accomplishing something, I hope you’ll let us know.

  17. Adam Villani Says:

Oh boy, Anarchists! Yeah, they’re a viable alternative to McCain, all right.

  18. cmholm Says:

The GOP Convention, eh? With a little imagination on your part, this could turn into a seriously HST-like experience. Is it too late to book Steadman?
