The Infrastructure

I don’t agree with it in every detail, but Jeanne Cummings has a pretty good brief overview of the growth in progressive infrastructure over the past five-six years, heavily featuring the Center for American Progress, and mentioning ThinkProgress specifically as an important achievement.

    1) Actually, it was an ingenious idea developed by progressives for Public funding of their political operations.

    2) They grew tired of the PBS approach — i.e., annoy the shit out of people by interrupting their TV viewing and begging for small sums of money.

    3) So in 2006 Billionaire Herb Sandler sold a bag of cat shit called “Golden West” to the huge Wachovia Bank for roughly $24 BILLION. The hilariously named “Golden West” deals in ..uh.. mortgages. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herb_Sandler

    4) Yes.

Needless to say, The Board at Wachovia now deeply regrets the buy , has fired the CEO, and will be a long time digging out of this hole. Although Wachovia hopes rich Republicans will bail them out by sending them their tax dollars by way of the Federal Reserve. Hee hee hee

    4) Mr Sandler is the ..er.. financial angel for Center for American Progress and this web site. Of the $2.4 Billion he received from the Golden West sale, Mr Sandler gave $1.3 Billion to his Sandler Family Supporting Foundation which funds MoveOn and Center for American Progress. Among other things.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandler_Family_Supporting_Foundation

    5) Think of him as Haim Saban’s good twin brother. Robs from the rich and gives to the poor.

And there’s no one poorer than progressive intellectuals. Just ask Matthew’s girlfriend.

    Hey Matt,

Consider this a request: Any ideas on the “five crisp statements based on the founding of this country to explain [Democrats'] philosophy”?

I can think of one so far: preserving America as a country of opportunity for all as it was at it’s founding (encompasses aid to disadvantaged minorities/liberal immigration laws/anti-trust legislation)

Did anyone else notice how poorly written that article was? I don’t mean the information, but the style itself.

  4. OhioBoy Says:

    This sentence floored me:
Amid all this innovation came a gift from the Republicans — a brand-razing exercise of enormous proportions, ranging from a gluttonous demand for earmarks to sex scandals.

I accept that it’s impossible to cite the Iraq War as the cause of the Republicans’ downfall because it makes the ghost of Tim Russert cry, but you couldn’t even mention Katrina?
