Spencer Ackerman titled his Joe Biden reaction post “Delaware, Are You Aware, Is This Thing On?” which reminded me that I hadn’t listened to The Promise Ring in years. So I fired up Nothing Feels Good and damnit that’s a great album and inspired me to do a Biden / Promise Ring mashup in honor of his looming keynote:
Can Joe Biden be our first emo Vice President?

No, no, no, no. I don’t think I can take four more years of emo. I’m already close to clawing my ears off because I’ve started to enjoy some of this awfulrock thanks to Rock Band even in a non-ironic fashion. No more.

The Third Senator from Pennsylvania is also popular in B is for Bethlehem, PA.

Spencer’s titles are too cutesy. We get it he knows a lot of song lyrics.

When Matt commented on the Girl Talk album a few months back, i had hope for him, but between the 90’s rock references and, good-god emo, I’ve lost all faith in Matt’s music punditry.

yikes. You’re good at some things, Matt. Mashups are not one of them.

God I hate emo. How about a Biden/Zeppelin mash up?

@crack – Good to see someone agrees with me about Ackerman and his post titles. He may have some good observations, but I can’t stand reading his page b/c of the song titles … it’s like hanging with that one music snob friend who – yeah he has good taste – becomes just insufferable with his show-offness….

It’s funny the bad name that emo has received. Nothing Feels Good is a great album. I’ll even take Very Emergency, as well. The emo of Promise Ring, Sunny Day Real Estate, early Death Cab for Cutie, was solid music. Matt I appreciate the reference and the video, good work, it’s a combination I never thought I would see, but I suppose I’m not the only indie music/political/blogger junkie.

30° Everywhere is 12 years old people. You can’t blame those polite upper-midwestern boys for the current state of eyeliner crap that is on the radio.
This brings back good memories. Long live Cap’n Jazz!

Dustin – agreed; well put. I’d also throw in some of the more directly post-punk emocore stuff.
Long live Drives Like Jehu!

Dude, did we really get a Nothing Feels Good reference here? A staple in my album collection. Yglesias, I was warming to your politcal analysis, intrigued by the Girl Talk mention, put off by all the horrible NBA talk (college football is the only sport worth discussing), but am finally sold with a Promise Ring/Biden mash-up. Never saw that coming…

I feel it is important to note that Matt missed the opportunity to throw out an “Everywhere in Denver” reference as well.

So, this nugget of nostalgia set me off on a path and check this out, Davey von Bohlen and Dave Didier of Promise Ring and Eric Axelson of Dismemberment Plan are in a band together called Maritime, not too shabby.

First emo vice president awards go to Harry Truman, who pined for years over Bess before they were finally married. He then spent most of his years as Senator (and some of his time as President) writing her letters lamenting the fact that they spent so much time apart.
And continuing with the theme, what about “The Deep South”? “Jersey Shore”? These are places Democrats should be winning, dammit!
