Fair and Balanced

CNN announces new pundit roundtable feature with three conservatives, one progressive, and Dana Milbank. While contemplating whether this should make you laugh or cry, consider that this is actually an improvement over what we usually get.

  1. Dev Tobin Says:

It’s even worse than that, because Hillary Rosen is really no “progressive.”

She’s a Beltway insider, former top lobbyist for RIAA, and big-time supporter of her before-that employer Hillary Clinton.

Rosen’s “progressive” on marriage equality, for personal reasons, but mostly a corporate DLC Democrat besides that.

CNN should be, but won’t be, ashamed by this quintet of outside-the-real-mainstream new hires.

  2. Aleks Says:

How many liberals is a progressive worth?

  3. qjk Says:

Dev: I know I’m supposed to dislike Hilary Rosen—she’s cozy with the Clintons and the DLC, like you said, and yeah, she headed the RIAA way back when. But I’ll come to her defense here. I can’t remember the circumstances anymore—the primary was so long ago!—but I remember seeing her on the teevee and the internets, repudiating some of Hillary Clinton’s campaign tactics when it started becoming obvious she couldn’t win. Just like she disclaimed responsibility for strongarming kids for copyright violation after leaving the RIAA, I guess you could say, and that’d be fair too. But at least she seems, you know, sane.

  4. Kirk Says:

So CNN now stands for Conservative News Network. Thank goodness now I don’t have to watch that channel.

  5. TLB Says:

Apparently the move hasn’t improved MattY’s reading skills: the article says CNN is “adding” them. The article does NOT say “relying on them exclusively”. Hopefully the difference doesn’t have to be explained.

On another note, if anyone wants an example of how sleazy MattY’s new employers are, look into the quote from Krikorian in this post:

    thinkprogress.org/2008/08/13/immigrants-emissions/

They left out a word that changes the meaning entirely.

Those are the type of people that MattY works for.

  6. pseudonymous in nc Says:

Apparently, TLB is still spending every waking hour hitting ‘refresh’ on his feed-reader, because he has no life. In other news, CNN still employs Lou ‘lepers’ Dobbs and allows him to maintain a corral of ‘reporters’ like the cock-headed puppet Casey Wian for an hour’s nativism per weeknight.

“Immigration is incompatible with modern society, including the economy, government spending, sovereignty, assimilation—and also security. ”

I blame those fucking Armenians. Worse than the Irish.

I like that Dana Milbank defies labeling. Not because he’s a “maverick” but because he’s so . . . pointless?

Don’t forget that CNN also employs Campbell Brown, who is married to Dan Senor(the CPA press flack from the early years of the Iraq War).

CNN announces new pundit roundtable feature with three conservatives, one corporate lobbyist turned DLC “Democrat”, and an idiot.

    There, fixed.

  10. Njorl Says:

I just realiized, after a few posts in various forums defending Dana Milbank, that I had him confused with Dana Priest. That’s a big mistake to make.

  11. skiddie Says:

I can do you one better, Miguel:

    There, fixed.

CNN announces new pundit roundtable feature with five idiots.

    There, fixed.

  12. LaFollette Progressive Says:

    What everyone else said.

    Hillary Rosen:Progressive::Georgia:Military Superpower

  13. Alan in SF Says:

The “progressive” has been in charge of hunting down and levying massive fines on college kids for illegally listening to music.

  14. ostap Says:

Actually, TLB is right — these are people that CNN is adding to the existing roster. Cleveland added a point guard yesterday. I do hope that Matt doesn’t complain that obviously a team built with only point guards is unbalanced.

“…repudiating some of Hillary Clinton’s campaign tactics when it started becoming obvious she couldn’t win. (and)..disclaimed responsibility for strongarming kids for copyright violation after leaving the RIAA…”

If pissing on the carpet then repudiating the puddle is “sane”. I’ll eat my shorts.

  16. TLB Says:

Interesting that MattY’s fave anti-Irish sockpuppet made the jump; some forms of bigotry are obviously acceptable.

A correction: at the CFR link, Krikorian does omit “mass” before “immigration” at the end, so the TP quote is accurate, even if they don’t mention that he was discussing it in the “mass” context.

  17. pseudonymous in nc Says:

Unsurprising that the Blogwhore Of All Blogwhores has no capacity for irony. After al, if you’re a ladder-pulling Neo-Nativist with an name that bespeaks an immigrant past, whether it’s ‘Tancredo’ or ‘Krikorian’ or ‘Finbar O’Shillelagh’, you deserve to be laughed at. Now get a fucking life, you monomaniacal bag of shite.

Having Hilary Rosen as a CNN regular might be perceived as an attempt to deal with a perceived Lesbian Gap with MSNBC. Unfortunately, Rosen is primarily associated with her RIAA past, just as Jack ‘Boston Strangler’ Valenti was always Mr MPAA. That’s to say, someone who treated the rise of digital distribution as something to be stopped at all costs, rather than seeking to adapt to technology, isn’t exactly the best advocate for forward-looking policy.
