Extreme Cleaning

In every cloud there’s a silver lining, so in that spirit The Washington Post takes a look at folks earning a living doing “extreme cleaning” — i.e., cleaning up abandoned and foreclosed homes — in Virginia’s exurban Prince William County.

After his father died, Paxton traveled in Hawaii, started a wet-suit company, then created a product called Paxton’s Sandal Saver to clean flip-flops.

I’ve heard of many truly idiotic business ideas, but flip-flop cleaning takes the prize.

  2. Ed Marshall Says:

I did this years and years ago, the biggest problem is that before people quit paying their mortgage they quit paying the water bill. So in nearly every house what you would find was a toilet full of shit up to the rim. Then they would shit in the bathtub until they left. I didn’t have the stomach for it and the guy that owned the company was offering me $250/day to do this and it just wasn’t worth it.

MattY: thanks for being aware of the context in which the WaPo offers such articles. At first there might appear to be no connection between the two, until you start following the money. To be specific, looking into how the WaPo is part of a loose network of people in that area who promote a “vibrant economy”, even if it involves illegal activity.

Hey, since he’s in the area, maybe MattY could do some real reporting for a first.

  4. Don Williams Says:

They could try cleaning up the government of Prince William County but that’s one rank stable even Hercules would have taken a pass on.

I say that as someone who was involved in a zoning fight there circa 1988 that went to the Virginia Supreme Court.

Everything is connected to TheBrownMenace. Also, KevinBacon is an agent of the MexicanGovernment.

I don’t know if this is snark, but if true it says alot about the type of people who get in over their heads with mortgages.

Couldn’t they at least dig a hole in the back yard?
