The US and Poland had been at loggerheads over the question of basing American missile interceptors in Poland, but suddenly the two countries have reached a deal leaving Russia as the big loser. As Robert Farley notes “this can happen when you adopt a foreign policy of intimidation” and American neocons ought to take note of the general applicability of the principle.

Sounds like the U.S. sweetened the deal for Poland in response to the Georgia business.

Why is Russia a big loser in the deal? Do you think they have no way to counter?

“leaving Russia as the big loser”
Except for the fact that the missile defense system will not work in a real world attack scenario.

If you consider it as strategic missile defense, it is almost certainly a waste. What the Russians see is the US putting a lot of top-of-the line radar and a de facto theater missile defense system along with secure communications and a command and control center.
