you know, in the positive column, there is her experience as a tv announcer and beauty pageant runner-up.
she may not have much experience in government, but she’s quite a celebrity!

  2. too many steves Says:

The part-time legislature thing is supposed to be a negative?

  3. Virginian Says:

To be fair, Matt, Tim Kaine was a short lister for Obama and the Virginia legislature is only in session for 45 days in odd years and 60 days in even years.

  4. joejoejoe Says:

OT: Beau Biden didn’t even mention his deployment to Iraq. Sarah Palin is laying it on pretty thick about her son’s deployment.

  5. Pan Says:

I think the VA House of Delegates has a similar schedule for its part time legislators. Really, how much goes on in Alaska requires a full time legislature?

  6. MNPundit Says:

Why do you even bother? The Texas governorship is a joke a Bush is a lifelong failure but that didn’t stop him.

Switch to an attack that works!

  7. jerri Says:

How about a 20 min. Palin interview with Fareed Zakaria…but I think the better bet would be The View on Tuesday.

  8. brian Says:

Sarah Palin responding on TV to Exxon Valdez ruling in U.S. Supreme Court.

There’s an edit in this YouTube video right about 1:31. I wonder what’s missing?

  9. Seitz Says:

To be fair, that’s about 89 more days than McCain has spent in the Senate this year.

  10. Rob Mac Says:

Hopefully we’ve got better stuff to abuse Palin with than this. Most state legislatures are part time. And, anyway, Palin isn’t a legislator. She’s the governor and that’s not a part time position. How many days a year does the Illinois legislature meet? Really, this is a very stupid piece of snark.

    Quit picking on Alaska, Yglesias!

    Free salmon for everybody!

Well, Sebelius was on Obama’s shortlist, and Kansas isn’t that big of a state and has a similarly short legislative session. (Though she was Insurance Commish for 8 years and has almost 6 years under her belt as governor.) I don’t think you need to run a big state to have the experience to lead. Montana isn’t huge either, and tons of people think Schweitzer is a rising star too.

All that being said, it is the substance of the choice that we should be focusing on. No only does this undercut McCain’s experience meme, but it is also at once a shift to the right and a ploy to get women’s votes (even if said women markedly disagree with McCain and Palin’s positions on the issues).

  13. Thomas Says:

90 days is nothing out of the ordinary. Here in Maryland it’s 90 days and the state constitution requires the budget be balanced and passed at the end of the session. Very efficient.

  14. TIm Says:

Last time I checked, Governor = Executive, not Legislative.

  15. danceswithgoats Says:

Exactly! With the legislature in town only 90 days it means that the governor is responsible for running the state. I see this as a good thing.

  16. danceswithgoats Says:

She has more executive experience than McCain, Obama and Biden put together.

  17. Ernest Payne Says:

Why am I reminded of the unlamented Dan Quayle?

  18. genks Says:

And Minnesota’s legislature meets 120 days for every two years

I think thats enough time to pass some bills

  19. bottomofthe9th Says:

The Texas legislature also only meets for 3-4 months every other year…

  20. ThinkingOutloud Says:

And George Bush has more executive experience than all four candidates combined. Look at all the good he’s done with his ‘experience’.
