   is “signalized” a real word ? sounds like a Bushism.

   How things have changed.
   When I left Washington 20 years ago, 14th and U was the red light district.
   I assume that isn’t true anymore.

   the narrow one-way streets just south of U (T, R, and Q) have them, so I don’t see why their more northerly counterparts can’t as well, both streets are just the right width.

   Perhaps part of the overall plan is to create streets that are more attractive to for motorists at the expense of cyclists, in addition to creating those that are more attractive for cyclists at the expense of motorists, thus channeling the cars away from the bike streets. Maybe not, but it’s possible.

   The better question is: why aren’t the bike lanes going in next to the sidewalk instead of making the bike lane a narrow passage between the moving traffic and the chorus line of randomly-opening driver-side doors?

   Are you sure bike lanes are needed on these streets? On low-traffic streets, I think it’s often best for bikes to just share the lane.
