Tea Party: The Documentary Film

It’s a little bit difficult to believe, but this is not a parody. It’s an actual preview for an actual movie about the tea party movement:

so what? michael moore wins oscars for things much more ridiculous than this.

by the way, are you familiar with the term tongue-in-cheek?

  2. Rich in PA says:

This film is not yet rated…besides C for Crazy!

  3. patrick says:

Haha they really lean pretty heavily on that one black dude

  4. live says:

Is it just me, or when the voiceover says “grass-roots awakening” at 0:13 does it sound like “grass-roots weakening”?

  5. El Cid says:

Truly, this was the 2nd American Revolution, having some people yell stuff last summer.

  6. Kenny B. says:

This will contribute to the fulfillment of my prediction that the end result of this movement will be that its members tell crank stories to their uncaring grandkids about it.

Meanwhile, outside the realm of pathological self-indulgence, Politico has a different take on this “revolution”: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29744.html

  7. ga73 says:

Keep showing the black dude at different angles so that people think there is more than one of them.

  8. Kenny B. says:

Seriously, does it bother anybody else how enamored these people are of themselves? I mean, everyone thinks their opinion is the right one, but come on…

Everyone in the group has a kind of Michael Scott quality to them.

  9. Bill O'Baggins says:

This is the true story… of seven wingnuts, picked to live in a double-wide … and to expose themselves to riducule….see what happens when they stop taking their medications, and start getting real…. THE REAL WORLD: TEABAG STYLE.

  10. tomemos says:

    “They were mocked.” Were?

  11. JM says:

I think this one was a much better video.

  12. JM says:

    “They were mocked.”

    Both of them?

  13. tomemos says:

“so what? michael moore wins oscars for things much more ridiculous than this.”

Noooooo. In Michael Moore’s Oscar-winning film, he interviewed Marilyn Manson, Matt Stone, Charlton Heston, and citizens from all across the country (and Canada!). These guys showed up at a protest with a camera.

“by the way, are you familiar with the term tongue-in-cheek?”

Well, if the bombastic style is tongue in cheek, what’s the message? “These protesters take themselves ridiculously seriously, and we should make fun of them”? That I can agree with!

  15. tomemos says:

It’s a well-made trailer. The black guy appeared at the precise moment I started thinking, “Gee, all these people are white.” Then he appeared again every time I was just starting to think, “Haven’t seen that black guy in a while.”

  16. nbt says:

It wouldn’t seem so goofy without the overwrought narrator’s voice.

  17. Drew says:

WTF Matt. You know as much about Belgian Independence (1830) as Bill Gross knows about the Maginot Line. What are they teaching at Harvard these days minus 6-7 years?

  18. JM says:

WTF Matt. You know as much about Belgian Independence (1830)

You know, if you’re singing “525,600 minutes” while a clown beats a drum, you’re in the wrong opera.

That is hilarious. It’s “tongue in cheek”> Woooo hoo. Of course it is!

  20. Erik Lund says:

Uhm, aren’t Tea Partiers supposed to dress up like Indians, rather than Colonial Williamsburg gift shop staff?

  21. Chris__ says:

The ominous line about tyranny always gets me. What is more tyrannical: a health care bill or warrantless wiretapping? Makes no freaking sense.

Why don’t the Tea Bag folks urge Obama to close secret prisons, revoke the Patriot Act, etc?? Liberals and the Tea Bag people would definitely work together on that sort of thing.

  22. Kenny B. says:

The award for best snark goes to:

It’s a well-made trailer. The black guy appeared at the precise moment I started thinking, “Gee, all these people are white.” Then he appeared again every time I was just starting to think, “Haven’t seen that black guy in a while.”

Great work Tomemos. Erik lund, you were a close second for the gift shop comment.

  23. PhillyGuy says:

I’m confused, what is this specific tyranny that they’re referring to. The only concrete issue I saw mentioned during the whole trailer was the stimulus, which is tyrannical, how? I assume health care reform is tyrannical too, what else? Seriously, where were these people during the Bush administration when our government was torturing people, eavesdropping without warrants, holding prisoners indefinitely, etc…. Or is it ok because were doing it to a-rabs?

  24. Kenny B. says:

I think this one was a much better video.

If you do a mash up of that video and the teabagger video, I will be your best friend.

  25. Jim S says:

Nice franchise-flick-style voiceover, but shouldn’t Tugg Speedman deliver a one-liner at the end?

  26. jibeaux says:

Do you have a source for your outlandish claim that this is not a parody, Matt?

  27. tomemos says:

Well, according to the website Matt linked to, it’s sponsored by RedState, among others. So if it’s a parody, it’s fooling them…which would be the best thing I ever heard.

  28. Adirondacker says:

Or is it ok because were doing it to a-rabs?

It’s okay to do it if you are a Republican. Anything someone-not-Republican does is automatically suspect and if it’s a Democrat saying or doing something it has to be a nefarious plot to turn us all into Maoists.
…. I think it’s partly projection. They assume the leader will be dictatorial…

  29. jibeaux says:

Yeah, I was snarking a bit, but mercy, that voice over. I like how they say they “were” mocked, like this is going to put a stop to that!
Sadly, there does not seem to be a theatrical release. Yes, you can see the guys who once did MST 3K and now make Rifftrax, making fun of movies, in a theater, but there is insufficient interest in the second American revolution for a theatrical release, which I think is just another example of the oppression or possibly Nancy Pelosi’s influence in conjunction with George Soros and ACORN.

  30. Socraticsilence says:

Its nice of them to put the one black Tea Partier.

  31. b9n10nt says:

    black tea…heh.

I guess many of them were protesting for the first time…

    (fill in the pun)

  32. toadstool says:

It just kills me to see people manipulate goofy period dress for political gain.

  33. JustMe says:

tricorner hats are the paper maché puppets of the right.

j r reminds us here again how the right does not seem to know what “satire” and “tongue-in-cheek” mean. They obvious bandy the terms around a lot when we point out their lack of self-awareness and poor production values, but they don’t understand that “satire” and “tongue-in-cheek” have a specific meaning, not catch-all words to be used to defend something dumb.

  34. Bgno64 says:

John Facenda, presumably, being unavailable. Because he’s dead.

These folks are the hippies of the aughts.

  35. calling all toasters says:

It’s going to have to be pretty good to top “Civil War Reenactors Gone Wild.”

  36. Patrick says:

It terrifies me that there are people out there who think that “When you have government control, over everything, you have, tyrannic behavior!” is both insightful and apropos to our times.

  37. TRIATHLON says:

BUT HE’S ONLY BEEN IN OFFICE [11] ELEVEN MONTHS!!

    [Reality Check]

Just what have we gotten in those [11] Eleven months that seem to mean change Nana, Zip, Nil, Zero, Nothing.

    1. HEALTHCARE: How does the pyramid go first healthcare than food and shelter, or is that the other way around? It’s the economy stupid, what are you going to do go to a Doctor and have him write you a prescription for a job, food on the table, and a roof to live under. We have modern day Homerville’s and Healthcare trumps food, and shelter, jobs!

    2. EDUCATION: The Media Messiah Imperial President tells everyone to go back to school college, so what do the colleges, do well of course raise the tuition by [1/3rd/ 33%], One-Third / Thirty-Three percent and then cut the State Enrollment trying to get out of state enrollment higher tuition fees. All this while they are laying off teachers and cutting class sizes.

    2. CRIME: Now all those criminal must have decided to take a break and go on vacation, religious retreat, they can’t all be in the slammer, and even if they were it’s a revolving down, get’em in and get’em out as fast a possible the states can’t afford to give [3] Three hots and a cot to [2M] Two million criminals. But, they must not be a problem because we have seems to be the entire alphabet soup Homeland Security Group, Secret Service, [FBI] Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Marshalls Service running around the country flashing their badges in the face of Bloggers, over something they didn’t like about their blogging. And getting paid to do it on the bloggers tax dollar.

    3. The [MIC]: Military Industrial Complex, is stuck in the graveyard of Empires, with lives being lost on a daily bases, either thru combat with the enemy or increasingly thru suicide, no one can figure out is we in or is we out, and if we is in how long is we in for, but it’s a cliff hanger to be continued until after the break like Dancing With The Stars, their fates will be announced after this commercial or Holiday.

    4. CITY AND STATE BUDGETS: Now we can’t afford to hire more police, firefighters, State run parks and libraries have to be either cut, combined, service charges applied, an again layoff’s of staff, but we can afford to build a new stadium in San Diego, California for the former Los Angles Chargers, who keep saying they are going to relocate unless a new stadium is provide. The City is broke the State of California is broke, The Federal Government is in hock to the Communist of China, but San Diego is going to build a stadium, the question is San Diego going to have [100] One-Days of Gladiators, wild beast, a naval battle, and emptying the stands of some Senators to fight it out, if they did it in Rome, San Diego can do it better.

    5. IMMIGRATION: The Empire does not need walls along any boarder, they don’t need the Immigration and Naturalization Service, or [ICE] Immigration and Customs Enforcement, all we need is Walmart to send a bunch of Walmart Greeters to various locations, and welcome all those coming in. Take off your shoes and just come on in, sit yourself down and make yourself right at home, if there is anything you want, well just you let us know, will fix you up in a jiff.

    6. THEY DON’T EXIST:

A.THE [BRIC]: There is no such thing as the Spheres of Influence such as Brazil, The Russian Federation, and The Peoples Republic of China.

    B. Diversified/Multilateral Currency Regime
Diversified/Multilateral Currency Regime, based upon a broader trade-weighted basket. The Multilateral Currencies would be the GLOBAL NUMERAIRE CURRENCIES [Euro, Pound Sterling, Japanese Yen, and Chinese Yuan], and hard currency Gold, Silver, Oil and Mineral Currency-The Russian Federation, Food Production Currency-Brazil, and Production Currency The Peoples Republic of China/India, assets that are less volatile, against price fluctuations, virtually context-free of the chance of their value disappearing entirely. With the creation of a [16] Sixteen Nation currency trading bloc within the Asian Sphere of Chinese Influence, as the Euro represents the nations of the [EU] European nations linking the [10] Ten, [ASEAN] Association of Southeast Asian Nations, countries, who already want a single currency by [2020] the generally accepted end of the American-Israeli Empire, member would include; Japan, China, Australia, South Korea, New Zealand and India.

    7. UNEMPLOYMENT & THE ECONOMY: Bernanke assured the Imperial Media Messiah President that unemployment would not go beyond [8%] eight percent, total, and its at what the Empire says is only [10.2%], ten-point-two percent and that number is rising, when the real number is over [20%] Twenty Percent when the working poor plus the numbers off the number tallies, fired so the employer doesn’t have to pay unemployment, those who have run out of unemployment benefits, self-employed with no jobs to be employed with. The value of the dollar dropping like a rock, the trade deficit increasing not decreasing, and it looks like old Bernanke is another G. W. Bush, we have to stay the course, of either double digit unemployment of double digit inflation.

But its only been [11] Eleven months, Merry Christmas, Bah Humbug!

  38. Xac says:

Seriously? Tell me this is a joke.

  39. Colatina says:

This clip really illustrates one of the oddest things about the so-called Tea Party movement: that a lot of their energy is consumed with talking about how amazingly motivated, numerous, and patriotic they are. They don’t really don’t care about whether a communist regime actually gets established, they’re more interested in how brave they were to stand up against socialism–right before it happened anyway. They’re a “revolution” that doesn’t actually care much if they accomplish anything or actually stop what they think is a Bolshevik regime from being established in the United States. It’s like Sarah Palin releasing a movie about her glorious rise to power in the 2008 election–on October 31, 2008. Can you imagine anti-war protesters releasing a film celebrating their awesome, self-sacrificing, peace-loving movement against war, in say, 2005? It would be pretty sickening to people who actually cared about the cause.

That was one of the better pictures about the 1984 Soviet invasion of Colorado.

  44. Adam says:

the states can’t afford to give [3] Three hots and a cot to [2M] Two million criminals.

Is that really necessary? Seriously, why would you spend time abbreviating that? That writing style is indicative of people with serious mental disorders.

    /yes, I know I’m wasting my time.

  45. toby says:

I expected John Stewart to come on at the end.

  46. Amazed says:

The style of the video is reminiscent of a technical school advertisement, or maybe a community college class project LOL

  47. yaozhiming says:

  48. joe from Lowell says:

    “They were mocked.”

    And now, they’re just ignored.

Is it just me, or is losing a Congressional district in New York to the Democrats for the first time in 140 years the only political accomplishment the teabaggers have to their name?

  49. rmwarnick says:

Hey, they found a black guy to be in the movie. Hope he got paid well. Basically, the Tea Party movement is an “OMG The President is a Black Man” movement. I say this because nobody can get that angry about tax increases that haven’t happened yet.

  50. erhan says:

  51. Phil says:

I know you guys are way cooler than the tea partiers, but I also noticed that you can’t really criticize the message, so you insult the messengers.

The fact is the government is taking an incredible percentage of our incomes and using it to invade foreign countries needlessly, paying people to remain poor, imprisoning an absurd percentage of our population for victimless crimes, and just general overhead and waste.

And please don’t assume this is a Republican movement, because it is definitely not. They are just as critical of Republicans as they are Democrats. It is an American movement for freedom.

Maybe someday I’ll be as cool as you and will be able to make fun of people standing up for their right to be free and peaceful, but that day hasn’t come yet.

  52. hump says:

Gee, Phil, you saw right through “us.” “We” can’t really criticize the notion that health care reform is just like killing millions of people in death camps, or that Obama is some kind of weird hybrid of Hitler and Castro, or that Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are the nation’s great public voices … nope. We just make fun of people dressing up like Sam Adams.

  53. joe from Lowell says:

I know you guys are way cooler than the tea partiers, but I also noticed that you can’t really criticize the message, so you insult the messengers.

I defy you to find a message in that trailer, beyond “We’re awesome because we’re tea-baggers.”

It’s supposed to be US who are making the tea party marches about personality instead of message?

    Yeah, good luck with that.

  54. josev says:

what message? this is a propaganda piece with less journalistic integrity than fox news on one of their more embarrassing days (hard to choose). this is a lame attempt at voicing the re-manufactured opinions of the neo-con crackheads who put us in this shitty economic hole to begin with; this is a political red herring that is so fscking obvious it hurts. Where was the douchebagging party in 2004? Masturbating furiously to tired rhetorical gospel of GWB and wondering why they can’t pay the rent after they bought in to the WONDERFUL NEW TAX CUTS (for like, nobody unless you’re a billionaire). Imprisonment for victimless crimes is not a new topic. You’re taking credit for legitimate movements and putting it under a self-righteous umbrella. FREEDOM!!!! ROGUE MAVERICKS UNITE! Take your lame ass Caribou Barbie tactics and shove it. You SUCK!

  55. Phil says:

No doubt this is a propaganda piece and no doubt that it is ridiculous, but the message is there.

Where were we in 2004? Voting for Ron Paul.

But the point I’m really trying to make with you is that this is neither a liberal nor conservative movement. This is not a “a lame attempt at voicing the re-manufactured opinions of the neo-con crackheads”. In fact, it is common thought among the tea-baggers that the neo-cons are the number one enemy.

We hate GWB just as much, if not more, than any of you. Sarah Palin is a joke to us too.

I am a liberal and always have been. I’m just a liberal who has lost faith in government — for very good reasons.

It is about freedom. The fact that freedom threatens you so much is very telling.

  56. hump says:

It is about freedom. The fact that freedom threatens you so much is very telling.

What’s telling is that you are oblivious to the fact that your notion of ‘freedom’ here is a vague, content-free rhetorical placeholder. What’s telling is that you can’t tell the difference between laughing at X, being annoyed by X, and feeling threatened by X. What’s telling is that you are either oblivious to, in denial about, or lying about the fact that a large proportion of tea partiers are motivated by incoherent rage that a Democrat, and a black man to boot, won the election last year.

What do you suppose the voice actor who narrates these sorts of films does after he leaves the studio? It must take some incredible willpower not to just start cracking up in the middle of recording the script.

  59. Dan Reeder says:

I watched this “movement” unfolding in the media. I’m pretty sure that most of those older people who proclaimed that this was their first time protesting in the streets were the same ones who yelled, “Love it or Leave it” at me back in the day. At least they’ve figured out that protesting is okay. As for a cause, well you have to consider what the government is spending the money on. How about two wars? Every dime we’ve spent in Iraq and Afghanistan has been put on the national credit card. Yet I would guess that many of these new patriots are support-the-troops fanatics. At least Obama has been spending money to head off a depression. Bush simply gave it away to the mega rich. Bush began with trillion dollar surpluses and ended with an economy near collapse. Where were these folks then?

Uh huh. You hate Bush, so where the hell were you for the last eight years? And to say that Palin has no shortage of admirers among the baggers is just false.

The teabagger movement is an incoherant joke. It may well become something substantial, but as the above comments suggest, it’s currently way too unfocused to say anything substantial.

They aren’t grassroot, they aren’t coherent and they definitely aren’t diverse.

All the teabaggers are old white stupid racist brought aholes gathering because our President is an African-American.

  66. Adam says:

People involved in the self-obsessed Tea Party “movement” should read some Paul Krugman and go shut the fuck up.

  67. youguysarenuts says:

So if the teabaggers are such evil, black-hating, old white people, what does that make you? Anytime you point a finger to mock someone, there are 3 pointing back at you. You people (most of the posters on here) are the exact same, but you just hate the other side (the White Establishment) What makes your opinions any more important than a teabagger? Answer me this, who is Barrack Obama? How much experience did he have before his election to the big house? Where the heck did he come from? One term as senator, and now he is the president? You can’t tell me that isn’t fishy. All of our politicians are self-serving SOB’s. They don’t give a crap about us “little people”. You complain about the money spent on the wars, wars you don’t think we have the right to be fighting. Look at our great country compared to, say, the EU. How many terrorist attacks has our country suffered? How many happen in Europe? Why don’t more happen here? Because we are attempting to be pro-active about it. We have things like Homeland Security making “illegal” wiretaps. We have the TSA, as inconvienent as it is to get searched before getting on an airplane, how inconvienent would it be to have the plane explode and scatter you and a hundred other people over a couple miles of ground? That would REALLY put a damper on your plans for your destination. So what; if you have nothing to hide, why worry about it so much? That stuff keeps us ALIVE! They can tap anything of mine they want, if it will keep my children and my children’s children alive and well. Do any of US know what the “War on Terror” is really about? Why did we REALLY invade Iraq? Some want to believe it was to free that country from tyranical rule, the other side wants to lay the blame for 5,000 deaths on someone’s greed for oil. Which side is right?

Personally, I didn’t, and would never, vote for a black man to be president. Especially a Muslim, black man. They get too much given to them under the guise of “helping” them. How many “African-Americans” have actually BEEN to Africa? I’m not a “German-American” or a “Swedish-American” I am an AMERICAN. No prefix or other monicker, just American.

Look at the Muslim counties, how nice would it be to live in one of those, huh? That would be great! Right? If it were American fighters in a Muslim prison in Bahrain, there would be no quarter given, no civil trials. THEY WOULD JUST BEHEAD THEM! Do you think a Muslim king/president would consider freeing Americans and paying to set them up in a new life? Look at the latest events in Iran, a Muslim country, squashing all who protest against it. Some of them are willing to die for changes they believe in. Are we?

Oh no! These old, white, stupid, racists aholes payed a black man to be in there video! Let’s mock them for the same BS tactics that BOTH parties use EVERY day! That will be fun, point and laugh at people; however few they might be, because they don’t like the way things are being run right now. If any of you are satisfied with the way our country is being run right now, you are a sad, sad individual. Both sides are bastards, neither actually do anything for their constituents. Whether you are for or against an issue, why don’t you try to make your voice heard? That is all a teaparty is, a group of people voicing their opinion of how they think the government is working.

I don’t know what is really behind the election of a relatively young, Muslim, black man being elected president, in the middle of a war AGAINST young Muslim men. I really don’t. I wish there was a way to TRUELY find out who is pulling the governments strings, dancing them like marionettes. As long as people would rather sit at their computer and write hateful, mean things, and not do anything positive to change the situation, our country is just going to continue to slide downhill. Can anyone argue that our country is only a remnant of what it used to be? Both sides suck, so stand up and do something about it.

FROM TIME TO TIME, THE TREE OF LIBERTY MUST BE REFRESHED WITH THE BLOOD OF PATRIOTS AND TYRANTS, ALIKE. God bless American, my home sweet home.
